I think it's fair to share to anyone who's played the Bioshock games and ever seen the Bioshock film concept art, the idea of an city underwater would be a visually delight as way as a damn good movie if it's anything like the Bioshock game. Well Shimizu Corp says their city, Ocean Spiral, could be a reality within just a couple of decades. Shimizu Corp wants to “capitalise on the infinite possibilities of the deep sea” to accommodate human life, as rising sea levels threaten the survival of island communities.

The plan for Ocean Spiral would include a large sphere just below the surface and about 546 yards in diameter, occupied by homes, businesses, and hotels. Beneath that, a spiraling structure leading down to the sea floor would provide a way for scientists to extract resources for energy.

In a statement, Shimizu Corp spokesman Hideo Imamura said, "This is a real goal, not a pipe dream.”

Shimizu's vision for the underwater city involves converting carbon dioxide into methane with the help of micro-organisms, as well as a process called ocean thermal energy conversion. Based on the company's plans, Ocean Spiral would cost 3 trillion yen, or over $24 billion USD, and take five years to build, though Shimizu knows that the technology required to make such a project isn't available yet. Shimizu estimates about 15 years until then. So what are your thoughts about a city like Rapture being a possibility? Did you like it or not? Whether you feel, an underwater city would need good security.
