Disney has announced plans for a showcase to highlight their portfolio of upcoming games. The Disney & Marvel Games Showcase -- a first for the House of Mouse -- will take place at the D23 Expo next month, but will be broadcast online simultaneously so that fans at home can tune in.
The showcase will feature games from across the multiple Disney banners, including Disney & Pixar Games, Marvel Games, Lucasfilm Games, and 20th Century Games. The announcement post specifically mentions all-new announcements and reveals rom titles including Disney Dreamlight Valley, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is slated to launch this year while Marvel's Midnight Suns was recently pushed back to 2023. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga released earlier this year, so any announcement or reveal could be related to additional post-launch content, perhaps supporting the newest Star Wars series.
Of course, there are numerous other Disney games in development across the industry. Skydance New Media is working on a new Marvel ensemble game which we'll get a sneak peek at during the showcase. Not much is known about this title except that it's a "narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe."
Insomniac Games is also developing two Marvel games. Announced last September, the studio is currently working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, a sequel to 2018's PlayStation blockbuster, as well as a Wolverine game. Both titles are seemingly early in development for the PlayStation 5, so it's unclear if they will appear during the showcase.
Meanwhile, in the galaxy far, far away, there are multiple games in develompent. Zynga's free-to-play multiplayer arena game Star Wars: Hunters is coming to the Switch and mobile next year. EA and Respawn Entertainment just recently announced Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a sequel to 2019's critically acclaimed Jedi: Fallen Order. Quantic Dream is developing Star Wars Eclipse, an action-adventure set in the High Republic era with multiple characters and a branching narrative. There's also Aspyr Media's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake for PlayStation 5 which has reportedly been delayed.
The teaser for the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase also highlighted Ubisoft's Avatar game as well as 20th Century Fox's Aliens: Fireteam Elite. And, of course, there's the never-ending stream of licensed mobile games that could be featured.
It's unclear how many of these games will be shown at the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, but there's certainly lots of anticipation heading into the event. The Disney & Marvel Games Showcase take place on Friday, September 9th at 1:00 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET. The event will be livestreamed from D23 Expo 2022 and available to watch on a variety of platforms, including Disney and Marvel Entertainment social channels as well as the official D23 Expo website and social channels.
