About a year ago, it was announced that D.J. Caruso was going to direct a sci-fi/horror film based on EA'video game Dead Space.

Dead Space is set in the 26th century in deep space, where an engineer responds to a distress signal from a mining ship and finds the vessel infested with monstrous creatures called Necromorphs. The creatures are human corpses, reanimated by an alien virus.

Caruso gave MTV an update on the project, saying that "the cool thing about Dead Space is we've had a few offers to set it up. Once I started ['I Am Number Four'] and [producer] Wyck Godfrey and all those other guys got really busy on the 'Twilight' movies because they're kicking butt over there, so we're gonna get back and talk about it once everyone's time frees up."

Caruso added they have "a really good sort of storyline. It's almost a prequel, sort of, to where the game picks up."

He said that there are obstacles, however. "It's one of those things where the storytelling of it and trying to get into the prequel [is a challenge]... You have have the whole sort of brainwash-y/Scientology thing and ultimately the Necromorphs."

The director also says that although they don't have a writer yet, they are taking pitches from different writers. "We've tried to crack the story a few different ways, so I know when we get back we're going to get into it and I feel like we'll have a screenplay in a few months. It'll hopefully be ready to go."

Very cool... that game does what the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill... geek you the frick out. Caruso = good hands for any script to be in and by the way (since no one stated it yet and in anticipation of the obvious) there are comic books.

prequel? that has already been done, freaking idiots, have they not heard of Extraction? it was a Wii rail shooter that leads right up to the first game, it is now being ported to PS3 and is being bundled with the limited edition of DS2.

I call shenanigans on this movie, and if they try to pull a Resident Evil on it and not follow the main plot and make up their own crap I wont being seeing it.

the deadspace anime "downfall" also was the prequel to the games. but I don't appreciate Osiris using the term idiots...there are many possible story incarnations especially for the perspective of the people on the ship like whats her face.
