We've known for some time now that Guardians of the Galaxy and Knock at the Cabin standout Dave Bautista is keen to land the lead role in a live-action Gears of War project, and with Netflix now in the midst of developing a movie, you'd think it would be one step closer to happening.
While there's been no official word on casting, a recent interview with Variety (via GameFragger.com) saw the pro wrestler turned actor reiterated his desire to star in Gears of War.
He previously missed out on being part of the Fast & Furious franchise so he could pitch a big screen adaptation of the hit video game series to Warner Bros. (they decided to pass). So, might Bautista finally get to play Marcus Fenix on Netflix?
"I really hope they will," he replied when the trade asked if he'd like the streaming service to touch base with him. "It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would."
"I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully it’ll come my way and we’ll be having this conversation in a different way sometime."
An Xbox-exclusive franchise, Gears of War launched in 2006 and has since spawned five main games and three spin-offs. Fenix is a soldier and former war hero in the Coalition of Ordered Governments called back into action on Planet Sera to battle reptilian invaders called the Locust Horde.
As well as a live-action movie, Netflix is also moving forward with an adult-orientated animated series. Should the streaming service choose to cast younger actors for the lead roles, Bautista might at least get to shoot his shot in animation!
Either way, the actor is a great choice to play Fenix, but as more time passes, it happening begins to look increasingly unlikely. Just like Batman villain Bane was once a dream gig for the actor, it appears this is going to be another of those characters that simply doesn't work out for the Avengers: Endgame star.
