Gerard Butler In Negotiations For KANE & LYNCH, Vin Diesel Has An Offer

Gerard Butler Kane & Lynch video game

The Kane & Lynch movie is apparently back one. After a stalled attempt that had Bruce Willis (Red 2) and Jamie Foxx (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) set to star the titular anti-heores, Gerard Butler (300) is now in negotiations to star as Kane. The film will be produced by Nu Image/Millennium Films, the latter whom Butler resparked his career with Olympus Has Fallen. F. Gary Gray is attached to direct which counts as another reunion for Butler, who previously worked with Gray on Law Abiding Citizen.

The Hollywood Reporter also has sources which reveal that a preliminary offer is out to Vin Diesel (Guardians of the Galaxy, Fast & Furious) to star as Lynch. THR goes on to report that it's too early to tell if Diesel will sign on to the project. The script was written by Skip Woods (Hitman, Swordfish) and Kyle Ward (Machete Kills).

Why are they wasting money on a movie based on a shit video game when they could be making ones based off of Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, or Mass Effect, you know, actual good games?

I have a feeling that any excitement for this movie would come from fans of the source material. If this plotline was just a movie and not based on a game it wouldn't stand out from any other gritty buddy cop or criminal movie. I don't think games should be made into movies unless they would be awesome movies without being based on game. Take Assassin's Creed for instance. Without knowing anything about the source material someone could watch that trailer and think, "that looks like an interesting and unique movie". A few years ago I may have been excited for this movie, but I'm more familiar with my own tendencies now. I will likely follow all the production news about this movie but opening weekend will come and go and I probably won't see it until it comes on FX.

How about a Zack Snyder directed ( or Zack Snyder style) version of Borderlands that was made like 300 or the Watchmen? I'd see it.

The games do suck but they have potential to be a interesting movie. Make a gritty hiest movie that really gets into the characters of Kane and Lynch could be promising. This casting sounds poop......so I guess this movie will be a failure, lol.

If I was making this movie I would go Reservoir Dogs meet Lethal Weapon. I would also go back to the original casing with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton.

The only mission I liked was the bank Robbery one, though I did enjoy completing it on hard in one night with my friend when it was initially released. They had good concepts for multiplayer with the "undercover cop" and "fragile alliance" modes. The second one was complete trash.

The only thing they'll take from the game's plot is the concept of a man being freed from prison and forced to earn back money the hard way whilst being watched over by a lunatic with his family on the line. Factor that in with tone like "Heat", some grittiness and Heists and it could be good.

I remember when they announced this movie years ago and stated Bruce Willis was going to be in the film.

Just drop this movie since the video game is mediocre. There's plenty of other better video games to adapt to movie or tv however movies based on video games tend to fail.

@Jackraow21- I think Josh Brolin would be a better Cable than Butler. But Fox will probably [frick] this up and hire Tom Hanks to play Cable.

its not so much the game, its the story. what they can do with it. if they made doom, street fighter, Mario brothers, silent hill, tekken, max payne, wing commander ... do I need to go on? if these got made, why not kane and lynch.

to me the K&L games were decent even though I can understand why people hated them, although... even when the game might seem mediocre the story of the first game is pretty awesome, the characters are good anti-heroes, it has an emotional dynamic where everything goes to hell, where the protagonists are simply terrible people and they get what was coming for them, I like that, it's different, it's dark.
I always wanted to see a K&L movie, Ed Harris as Kane, Kevin Gace as Lynch (if you guys saw "Heat" you know why he is perfect for the roll, as a matter of fact I bet Lynch was based on Waingro).
@SotoJuiceMan: you think the idea of a K&L movie is ridiculous and stupid yet you want to see a super mario and mortal kombat movie, lol. Like that hasn't been done before clown.

Someone on another site suggested Steven Ogg the voice actor for Trevor from GTA V should play Lynch. When you see the guy that is dead on accurate! And the Trevor character is pretty much Lynch anyway.
