NetherRealm Studios (via GameFragger.com) has unveiled Nitara as the latest playable character in this month's Mortal Kombat 1, and Megan Fox (Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will be providing the voice and visage for the formidable winged warrior.

Fox was previously linked to the upcoming game along with rapper Travis Scott, but if the latter is involved, his character has yet to be confirmed.

Nitara debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance back in 2002, and has only made a few appearances since. Even so, she has gone on to become one of the more popular supporting characters in the iconic fighting game series.

"She comes from this weird realm, she is a type of vampire creature," Fox explains in the video below. "She's evil but she's also good. She's trying to save her people. I really like her. She's a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It's cool to be in the game, you know? Because I'm not really just voicing it, it'll be like she's kind of... me."

The featurette includes an interview with Fox, along with some footage of Nitara in action as she dispatches some unfortunate opponents using her signature diving claw and fang attacks. There's also a little nod to one of Fox's previous roles, with Kung Lao asking Nitara (around the 1:28 mark), “What did you do with Jen’s body?”

It's not particularly gruesome, but a couple of fatalities are showcased, so here's your NSFW warning just in case!

Check out the new teaser, and let us know if you plan on picking up the game in the comments section down below.

“With Mortal Kombat 1 we are bringing a reimagined universe to the legendary franchise which has captivated gamers for more than 30 years and continues to top itself,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series forward in bold ways that have consistently expanded the global audience, and we believe Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to attract new players as well as thrill our core fans.”

“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans,” added Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat. “We’re also introducing our Kameo Fighter system which brings a unique roster of partner characters into the mix, and we are looking forward to showing this feature as well as more new elements of the game very soon.”

Mortal Kombat 1 hits shelves on Sept. 19, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

MK9 and 10 were both great. 11 wasn’t quite as good to me. This one looks like a return to form.

Glad Nitara is back, but couldn’t care less that Megan Fox is playing her.

@mountainman - I keep buying mortal kombat thinking the gameplay will magically be smoother Ala dead or alive or soul caliber. Then I'm reminded it's as stiff as ever

They said months back that mortal kombat 1 would have a new fighting system. So we will see

@mountainman - Mortal Kombat 9 was the best MK game of all time. No question about it. The story and the roster were just unbeatable.

MK10 was also great.

I still liked MK11 quite a bit. The fighting system was just slowed down a little bit and not a lot of people cared too much for that. But it still felt great to me.

@Vigor - Yes the MK system is still clunky after all these years. It’s certainly the biggest issue.

Funny enough, I think Ultimate MK3 was the best combat flow the series ever had. I don’t want what street fighter has turned into, but soul caliber is a good bar to aim for.

@CorndogBurglar - I agree, although I think Ultimate MK3 was great too.

11 just didn’t seem to move it forward and I didn’t like the new charcaters.

Bring back Shia and Megan for a direct sequel to The Last Knight, ditch the samurai robot designs, make Megatron the main baddie again, introduce Ultra Magnus and Prowl

@Matchesz - Megatron? 6th time's the charm?

I find it amusing to listen to actors hype about the "depth" of their character when what the audience sees onscreen ends up being a big fat nothingburger.

Megan's voice acting in that clip sounds as wooden as it's always been.

So the lady that brags about drinking people’s blood is playing a video game vampire? That’s not gonna be a hard acting job for her.

Game looks gorgeous but I've never got the hang of button bashing games and now I'm just too old to try. If my son was older I'd definitely get this and happily watch him slaughter.

They might as well have just had her play Jennifer Check as a guest character. They're basically the same lol.

Not a fan of her acting & I'm pretty confused about the choice to use her in this game as this character. Is it supposed to be a big draw? I feel like nobody cares all that much about her or the character.

Not really impressed with the dialog they showed in that trailer, but hopefully she'll be better in the game itself. Either way, not a huge difference for me in terms of hype for the game.

Why are people suddenly caring who voices these characters?
