Sony Pictures and Constantin Films' upcoming Resident Evil reboot, which has Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) on board as writer and director, wrapped production late last year, and star Chad Rook (Richard Aiken) has now taken to Twitter to share the first promo poster for the video game re-adaptation.

This isn't the official theatrical one-sheet for the movie (at least, we hope not), and doesn't feature any characters or zombies. Instead, we have a rundown of some familiar names from the Resident Evil games that'll appear in the movie.

Roberts has previously said that he wanted to "go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences."

Resident Evil also stars Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin, and Donal Logue (Silent Night, Gotham) as Chief Irons.

The reboot is currently set to release theatrically this September.

No Thanks.

@slickrickdesigns - Devil's advocate here, I enjoyed the movies as a RE fan. Once I accepted it wasn't an adaption but a reiterative project I enjoyed them for the B-Shlock they were.

That being said I'm really excited for this reboot. Hope the direct adaption concept works well.

@SanFranLand - Yeah. It seems like another unneeded let's do something "cool" with the font thing that might confuse casual viewers.
Marketing, people!

@Blergh - Cool. Don’t put on a red background, obviously. I mean, shake the image up a bit by scrolling. It’s instantly gone

@Blergh - I get it, but like I said, causal viewers will probably be like "Huh, 'Esident Vil? Is this the 54th movie of something I've never heard of?"

"Oooh." 😜

I’ve got a bad feeling about this but how much worse could it be in comparison to the absolute shit Paul WS Anderson films???

As a RE fan I'm really hoping this turns out to be good, and if Castlevania and Sonic taught us anything is that it is possible to create a great videogame adaptation.

You know, there are so many books and games with interesting stories that have yet to be told. It would be a refreshing change if they went in that direction instead of rebooting something that’s had several films.

@lawndart - the old movies had nothing to do with original resident evil though. These do

@Vigor - well I like the aspect of it following the original version but think it may have been useful to wait longer until the taste of the last movies went away

@lawndart - I'm hoping the quality and care given to original material will delete the memory of the old movies altogether!

It'd be quite the feat for this to be any worse than the Jovovich flicks. Fingers crossed RE gets some justice done in live action.

I'm cautiously looking forward to this. I do like the cast, and I like how they want to replicate that feeling of the first two games, but I'm not sure we need another Resident Evil adaptation (also goes for the Wesker kids show and the animated show).

"go back to the original first two games and recreate [...] grounded human story"

Did ... did he play the original first two games? The first game alone is every B Movie trope from giant spiders to horrible acting that's so far away from grounded that it was glorious.

I'm excited as hell for this, what I'm not too sure about is how RE1 and 2 are supposed to be told at the same time, the games follow each other and don't play parallel
