Live-Action STREET FIGHTER Crowd Funded Campaign Announced

The story in Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist centers on the master of Ken and Ryu, Gouken, who himself trained under ‘Asatsuken (Assassin's Fist)' grandmaster Goutetsu. Also training under Goutetsu was the legendary Street Fighter villain, Akuma, who is Gouken's brother. In the web series Gouken reflects on how the Asatsuken sent he and his brother down conflicting paths of 'Light' and 'Dark' and whether he should pass along all of its secrets to Ken and Ryu. Will the same split that befell Gouken and Akuma occur with Ken and Ryu?

In addition to portraying Gōki/Akuma, Joey Ansah (The Bourne Ultimatum) served as director and co-wrote the script with Ken actor Christian Howard. Togo Igawa (Memoirs of a Geisha, The Last Samurai) will portray grandmaster Goutetsu. Mike Moh (Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight) plays Ryu. Hal Yamanouchi (The Wolverine) will portray Senzo. Akira Koieyama (Rush, 47 Ronin) plays Gouken. Mark Killeen (Game of Thrones) plays Ken's father.

Unless they're surprising us, Bison isn't in this one. The antagonist is Akuma.

They've got the looks so far but what about the action?

Fight scenes these days aren't a patch on the old school kung fu from the 70s and 80s.

Cast him as Iron Fist in Marvel's upcoming Netflix show. He'll be sure to do a great job.

Makes you wonder why fans had to wait until 2014 for something like this. Like it really would have been that hard to produce. Instead we get the Van Damme Hollywood treatment. There's no justice in this world.

@InfiniteMonkey

That's how you do it Hollywood, casting a proper Asian!

This isn't HOLLYWOOD, This is an Independent production w/ CAPCOM involved. Hollywood isn't touching this live-action SF since they screwed us with 2 huge letdowns. This one is possibly the closest we can get into having a faithful adaptation of SF because these guys are huge SF fans and know exactly what they're doing. :)

Haha, I f*cking suck at these games. My ineptitude's practically a superpower in itself. Everybody's pulling off double-digit combos, and I'm just sitting there going: "F*CK, how do you do a low kick"? How did you shoot that shit from your hands? HOW DO I F*CKING NOT SUCK AT THIS?!

I still love 'em, though.

LOL.Growing up we didnt allow cornering or repetitive moves. Dhalsim was banned from competition unless you were playing arcade mode. It was only later that I learned that Street Fighter is not meant to be played that way.

Though I must admit it was cool when you learned a move that others didn't know. I used to kill throws from the side in Tekken 3 and 4

@cipher Don't sweat it, man. In the 2D Mortal Kombat games, I could never do a Fatality. To this day, I haven't popped my Fatality cherry in the old games. I think I did like a Babality or Friendship finishing move once n UMK3 lol.

Also, the Street Fighter games today have an easier learning curve.

breakUbatman- Heh, whenever I used to play Tekken with my friends, they would keep moving me to the other end of the stage where the walls were, and just keep juggling the shit out of me. My character was out cold by the time his body finally hit the pavement.

mgeoff- First time I nailed a fatality, it was completely by accident. I remember playing with this really dodgy controller (which was handed to me intentionally, no doubt), and I just went for the time-tested method of "mash-all-the-buttons-and-hope-a-miracle-happens", and, uh.. well, it worked.

Somebody's head got ripped off.

BOOM. Score one for divine intervention.

I was lame at old school MK luckily I got a code book from a magazine in grade 4. I still laugh at people who try playing Ultimate MK3 at the arcade and lose 2 Rounds in 30 seconds. Honestly think that game is rigged.

Nothing was cheaper in Tekken than Dr Bonsshononomvvvitchs one hit kill thing (you dont die instantly but your energy drains and you cant move unless he hits you).

And nothing sucked more than losing to Gon

This will be awesome! The amount of detail they're putting into this is fantastic, and could be better than MK: Legacy. SF:Legacy was a great start but this is looking to be absolutely amazing. I really hope this does well so we can get a World Warrior series next, with Scott Adkins as Guile, and gary Daniels as Bison.
