SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 Star Jim Carrey Gifted A New Car To A Member Of The Sequel's Crew

Legendary actor Jim Carrey is currently in Vancouver, Canada, hard at work shooting his role as the villainous Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2

As you might expect, shooting a blockbuster movie in the midst of a pandemic is no easy feat, and the appreciative actor decided to thank the crew for their hard work by holding a raffle. The grand prize was a Chevy Blazer RS that's worth around $40,000, and the winner - who was picked on Friday morning - is a grip on the movie.

This is a cool move on Carrey's part, and one that was no doubt appreciated by everyone putting themselves at risk to get the sequel finished in time for its theatrical release in April 2022.

Little is known about Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but the actor is expected to serve as the movie's lead villain following his transformation into the evil Robotnik from the SEGA video games. Set photos have also confirmed that Knuckles will be making his live-action debut alongside Tails (who was introduced in the first movie's post-credits scene).

James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, and Tika Sumpter are all returning, while Jeff Fowler will be directing based a screenplay by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

What do you think about Carrey's generous raffle on the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 set?

@MrDandy - I wouldn't say that first one was method acting, but it was certainly Jim-Carrey-method acting.

Sonic Blue is the perfect color for that car.

Never thought Carrey was incredibly funny or anything, but my God, is he entertaining to watch. His physical comedy is otherworldly.

I honestly think the sequel could be really good. Fingers crossed. Sega/Sonic IP needs it.

Not to slight a kind gesture, but wouldn't it have been more practical to divide the amount of the car between all the crew members with a generous like 1000 bonus or idk... it just seems like one person got HOOKED UP FAT and everyone else just... well... just get to participate in a raffle.

@ElricReturns - that's life, son. You'll be disappointed.

@ElricReturns - an average film crew is around 300 people. $110 per person just doesn't go that far. The gesture is more impactful.

@Itwasme - idk, even 10 bucks to the crew from Jim Carry for lunch, if Jim gathered everyone an said "guys I wanna thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for your efforts during these dangerous times, so I've spent 40,000 of my own money to divide among the whole crew. Now listen, it only averages up to about 100 bucks a person, but I want you to go home and take your family to a well deserved lunch out, on me. I love you guys and you did amazing. Now go be with your families and FEAST!!!"

THAT to me would have made everyone AND their families feel special. Sometimes it's the small touches that have the biggest impact. But giving one dude a car is pretty cool too.

@MadThanos - eventually, people on the internet will stop thinking talking down to others and calling them son makes them seem authoritative and cool. It really doesn't. It makes you look like a sweaty nut sack.

Plus, I'll bet money I have more white in my hair than you.

@ElricReturns - sure, but lunch is catered by production so thats a pretty empty gesture in my opinion, and that's not to say he hasn't done some things like that too.

But the thing is, a grip makes very little money. In fact there aren't many positions that make less. So Carry just made a HUGE difference in this person's life, might have even changed it forever. $100 wouldn't have done that. $100 leaves people in the same position they are in. So change one person's life or buy a bunch of people some drinks... I think its disingenuous to discredit the gesture given the impact he had. Just my take.
