Paramount Pictures' upcoming big screen adaptation of Sega's best-selling Sonic the Hedgehog video game has found its female lead.

According to THR, Tika Sumpter (Gossip Girl, Ride Along) is joining James Marsden (Westworld, X-Men) in the live-action/CGI hybrid flick. No specific information on Sumpter's character was provided.

Sonic will be helmed by first-time feature director Jeff Fowler, who is known for the 2005 Oscar-nominated short Gopher Broke. Neal H. Moritz will produce, with Deadpool director Tim Miller on board as an executive producer along with Toby Ascher.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to spin into theaters Nov. 15, 2019.

This movie is going to be a glorious train wreak.
We already know Marsden is the star and playing a human who 'team's up' with Sonic, and now Sumter is going to be his human girlfriend.

This piece of shit is going to be like every other CGI/live action hybrid. Where it focus on a boring pair of humans over the actual main character.

Get ready for the next Transformers/Smurfs/Ninja Turtles

What even is this movie? This film should've been completely CGI when have their been adult humans in Sonic's world that were ever significant except for Dr Robotnick?

Sonic is such a mess of a franchise. So much of it is so aggressively dumb. It's not even a particularly popular game series anymore.

As much as I loved the SatAM series and want to like other stuff they've done, it's just a Mickey Mouse-esque relic from a bygone era in platform gaming kept afloat by Japan's persistent love of fuzzy big-eyed mascots.

I just... I wish it was good, guys. I wish there were Sonic TV shows and movies and... I swear, I wish Bucky O'Hare was still a thing. But until you get some motivated older fan take over the franchise like happened with My Little Pony, it's just kind of not.
