Paramount Pictures and Legendary's Street Fighter reboot is expected to deliver a spinning piledriver to the theatrical competition this weekend.

Despite initial estimates pointing to a disappointing $25 million debut, the latest updates seem a little more optimistic for the video game adaptation, which now looks set to claim the No. 1 spot with $27 million to $35 million from 3,500 North American theaters. The movie could be on track for a $70 million global opening weekend.

Street Fighter has a reported $82 million budget, not factoring in P&A.

The PG-13 movie could benefit from positive word-of-mouth, but it may have to do without critical endorsement. Though full reviews are still under embargo until Thursday afternoon, social media reactions have been mixed (usually not a great sign).

Other new releases this weekend include high-concept survival thriller, Whalefall ($11M-$12m domestic in 3,000 theaters), Focus Features' remake of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility ($8 million from 2,436 theaters), and Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder's documentary, You Can See Everything (potential $10M+ at 800 theaters).

Do you plan on seeing Street Fighter on the big screen this weekend? You can check out some new TV spots below.

Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, Twisted Metal) signed on to direct Street Fighter after Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou parted ways with the project.

“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

The movie stars Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Orville Peck as Vega, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Mel Jarnson as Cammy, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

I'm guessing it needs about 150mil worldwide to get a sequel, which should definitely be on the table.

I feel like this is going to have much better word of mouth than MK2

This is one I'm looking forward to. Mortal Kombat wasn't bad but it was a little meh. This looks like loads of fun. Really hoping it delivers.

I honestly don’t see this film being critically that well received tbh (maybe a 60% or so on RT at best which is mixed-positive thus being representative of the reactions too) but I think it’ll do well with fans though the casual audience maybe less so but we’ll see…

Anyway , the movie looks fun so excited to check it out sooner than later!!.

P.S: Really want to see Whalefall aswell , heard mainly good things so far.
