SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Won't Mark The Late Kevin Conroy's Final Batman Performance

The assumption that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League marked the legendary Kevin Conroy's final voice performance as Batman led to a lot of backlash, but we now know that this is not the case...

Yesterday marked the official launch of Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and it's fair to say that the build-up to and release of the open world co-op action game has not been without its share of controversy.

Mixed-negative reviews aside, leaked story details caused uproar online when it was revealed that Task Force X would be murdering a bunch of iconic DC heroes (though the game's title really should have been a hint), including Batman (you can check out the cut scene in question here).

The backlash mostly seemed to stem not only from the Caped Crusader's death, but the fact that this particular take on the Dark Knight meets his end so unceremoniously in a game that was believed to mark the late Kevin Conroy's final voice performance as the character.

However, it's now come to light that Conroy actually worked on two other projects prior to his tragic passing.

According to IGN, the legendary voice actor has two other posthumous performances coming up in Bruce Timm's Batman: Caped Crusader animated series that's set to stream on Prime Video (Conroy is believed to be voicing Thomas Wayne), and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three, which will see him reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman from Batman: The Animated Series.

Whether this news will be enough to appease fans remains to be seen, but knowing Conroy's last ever performance as Batman won't end with his character getting shot point-blank in the head should put an end to at least some of the outcry.

"From the creators of the Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible: Kill the Justice League. Pre-order and get Classic Outfits. An internet connection is required to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo or via online co-op.

Join the newly “recruited” members of Amanda Waller’s infamous Task Force X (aka the Suicide Squad), Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark, as they set out on an impossible mission to kill the Justice League. Drop into an expansive and dynamic open-world Metropolis ravaged by Brainiac’s invasion and terrorized by the heroes who once protected it.

Experience gameplay that brings together a unique fusion of enhanced traversal, gunplay, and melee combat, combining free-roaming exploration and combat verticality for an unforgettable experience. Experience a brand new original story set in the DC Universe featuring your favorite characters and villains like you’ve never seen them before."

@nibs - whats keeping ypu from not playing it?

@nibs - I want to check it out. I'm not emotionally invested in the arkham batman as people put it. They can put a bomb in his chest and explode him across the cosmos for all I care. The game looks fun and colorful so I kind of want to give it a try

But my backlog of games is seriously a mile long. The life of a working dad to a toddler!

I was really hoping the league were all clones or from alternate dimensions, but NOPE. They really went there.

I love to be a fly on the wall to see all of these "great minds" at work when they write concepts like Kill the JL.

@TheLight - I think it would have been better if they didn’t make it a part of the Arkham Series!
TheLight
TheLight - 1/31/2024, 8:28 AM
@JonAwesome - I agree. They easily could've made this another elseworld series, but they decided to give the biggest middle finger to the fans by making this.

It's always funny to me when people get so worked up over this sort of thing. How many times has Batman and pretty much every other character been killed off in the comics? They always come back, so why is this one game getting so much backlash?
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 1/31/2024, 8:02 AM
@MarkCassidy - I don't get it either. Just see it as an else-worlds story. Problem solved.
Origame
Origame - 1/31/2024, 8:08 AM
@MarkCassidy - ...because it's believed to be the last performance of Kevin Conroy?

Also, the arkham series has always taken death seriously. Talia stayed dead, black mask stayed dead, joker stayed dead. Even ra's stayed dead, and coming back from the dead is literally his gimmick.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 1/31/2024, 8:13 AM
@MarkCassidy - The Marvels came and went and all that Snow White news has been slow lately. They needed this.
McMurdo

@MarkCassidy - because people thought it was his final role.

@FireandBlood - True. At least they have the Deadpool 3 Super Bowl trailer to look forward to.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/31/2024, 8:24 AM
@McMurdo - Yeah but aside from that. I've seen people going nuts over the entire concept of the game.
IvanBadski
IvanBadski - 1/31/2024, 8:29 AM
@MarkCassidy - because it's the [frick]ing arkham batman. Make it an elseworlds story and kill the heroes as mus as you like. In arkham knight bats put away every villain in one night and had a closure to his story.

Greed is what made them market it as the arkham continuation and doing stupid shit like making the original deadshot an imposter xD

Also, gameplay and the visuals are worse than a 8 year old game, what a bad joke. Is it the end of the world? no - just sad that rocksteady became another greedy company.
TheLight
TheLight - 1/31/2024, 8:30 AM
@lazlodaytona - Problem with that is that KTJL is part of the Arkham series, so Batman's end by a certain someone is the conclusion to that legacy.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/31/2024, 8:37 AM
@IvanBadski - it doesn't matter... My point is, everything is reversible. I haven't played the game so I don't know if they hint at anything like this, but even if they don't, they can easily bring the characters back in any number of ways.
Vigor
Vigor - 1/31/2024, 8:41 AM
@MarkCassidy - I think people see other people mad at something and then need to feel like they belong. So they hop on the hate bandwagon. It's a lot easier to hate a thing than love a thing

My theory anyhow
IvanBadski
IvanBadski - 1/31/2024, 8:54 AM
@MarkCassidy - sure it's reversible, some1 will say "multiverse" at some point. Like i wrote, it's not the end of the world. It's just unnecessary and dumb for no reason. The studio who made 4 arkham games should know their fanbase better though.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/31/2024, 8:57 AM
@IvanBadski - I guess they just went for shock value and controversy, which does sell. Though I hear the game is awful anyway so prob won't do them much good in the long run.
IvanBadski
IvanBadski - 1/31/2024, 8:58 AM

@foreverintheway - you don't think he'd feel disrespected that the last batman role he played is one he's brainwashed into becoming a villain then unceremoniously killed by Harley Quinn of all people?
Cass
Cass - 1/31/2024, 10:40 AM
@Arthorious - I think it’s better no one repeats that too much before someone gets an idea and we have a highly imaginative issue #1 of Spider-Ben hitting the shelves.
foreverintheway
foreverintheway - 1/31/2024, 10:47 AM
@Origame - Yeah I actually think he would respect that it's just one story, and that his entire legacy isn't undone with one video game. He'd also understand that his death was untimely and that this game was well under way before he died, and wouldn't take it as a personal slight.
Origame

Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 1/31/2024, 2:10 PM
@MarkCassidy - I'm personally not really outraged about it but I completely get it. You say they always come back but as Conoroy is dead we KNOW that this Batman isn't coming back. That's not gonna make them feel better about it.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 1/31/2024, 4:00 PM
@MarkCassidy - Me personally, I was going to get this, (I have rescinded my pre-order), then learning that Kevin Conroy was going out like this, in a f*cking game, hell nah, I may not be the biggest Batman fan, but I love the movies, cartoons and some of the comics, and I grew up with the Animated Series, that to me was the pinnacle of superhero cartoons, and Kevin Conroy was Batman. And to have some f.ing game kill him off, and for that to be the last time we ever hear him again as Batman? Nah like I said, F.UCK this game.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 1/31/2024, 11:57 PM
@Origame - Kevin Conroy read the script and agreed to play it. Shouldn't that be enough?
Origame
Origame - 2/1/2024, 4:48 AM
@Toonstrack - you don't even know if he was made aware batman was gonna die. Ffs, after the leaks came out telling people batman was gonna die, rocksteady themselves came forward saying "that's a fake out. By the end its revealed the justice league are actually all alive".

So why do you think they wouldn't lie to Kevin? It's not like he's saying anything in this that gives away he dies.

"And Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three, which will see him reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman from Batman: The Animated Series."

What?!?!

Seriously, Ror, dude, you should have led with that.

Also there's Multiversus as well. Why does everyone forget Multiversus? I know it had a beta last year, but the full game doesn't release until this year.
