With Morbius pushed to April, Uncharted now looks set to be the blockbuster that kicks off 2022. After Spider-Man: No Way Home's unprecedented success (grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide and counting), all eyes will be on this movie to determine whether that was a one-off or if the box office has truly recovered as we hopefully near the end of this damn pandemic.
Tom Holland will also come under close scrutiny as he looks to make it clear that there's more to his acting career than Peter Parker. Studio bosses, meanwhile, will be keeping a close eye on Uncharted's box office receipts to see if the British actor is a draw outside of the MCU.
If this new poster and stills are any indication, then the video game adaptation is in safe hands with Holland. He certainly appears to be inhabiting Nathan Drake with ease, and looks every bit the action hero here. Those stills were actually shot by Clay Enos, the photographer we're sure many of you will know best for his work on Zack Snyder's DC movies.
"Street-smart thief Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago," reveals the new synopsis. "What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada, who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother...but only if they can learn to work together."
Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rafe Judkins and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, the movie stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas.
Uncharted is set to arrive in theaters on February 18. In the UK, it arrives a little sooner on February 11.
