Back in 2021, it was announced that Skydance New Media was developing a Marvel video game led by award-winning director and writer Ammy Hennig. During the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase today, we got our first official look at the highly anticipated project.
While the title of the game has still not been announced, we do have some overall details about the game will which feature "an original story that will take players on a WWII-era adventure."
The game will feature four different heroes, each playable at different points in the story: a young Steve Rogers, aka Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network. The tagline "Four Heroes. Two Worlds. One war," suggests the action will also take place in Wakanda as well as Europe during World War II.
No gameplay was shown in the brief cinematic teaser, but there's the promise of "intuitive controls and exhilarating second-to-second gameplay that captures the action and excitement of Marvel."
Four Heroes. Two Worlds. One War. In collaboration with Marvel Games, Skydance New Media is proud to share the first look at our new AAA game with an ensemble cast and original story set in our unique #Marvel Universe.
“We’re so grateful for all the enthusiasm and support we’ve received from fans, and we’re thrilled to finally unveil a first glimpse of the game during this year’s D23 Expo,” said Amy Hennig, President of Skydance New Media. “Marvel has been an incredible partner throughout the creative process as we develop an original story and build an exciting new team of characters. We hope fans are intrigued by this sneak peek, and we’re excited to share more down the road.”
Given Amy Hennig's rich history in the gaming industry -- having served as director and writer for Naughty Dog's Uncharted series -- there's very good reason to be excited for this upcoming title. Hopefully we learn and see more soon. No release date or platforms were announced, but expect the game to be available on the latest gaming consoles, such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In addition to this Marvel title, Hennig and Skydance New Media are also creating a new Star Wars game. This will also be a narrative-driven, action-adventure game featuring an original story in the Star Wars galaxy, but unfortunately, this game was not revealed during the showcase today.
