Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly has been hired to work on a script for a Hollywood adaptation of Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid games. Connolly previously worked with the project's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, on Kong: Skull Island. Ghost in the Shell's (also Iron Man, Spider-Man, Blade) Avi Arad is producing.

Connolly and Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow were discovered by Steven Spielberg following their breakout Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

"Avi Arad is producing."

@BloodyBed -

this is never getting made.

it's been in development hell for 10 yrs already (if not longer) and the current director is way too much of a fan to take the notes the studio will want to make, i.e. take out all of Kojima's idiosyncracies & streamline the story.

@BloodyBed - to be fair, I think MGS could be a good film. If you take the first game and make it a spy/stealth version of Die Hard; it could work

But yea Avi producing doesn’t give me hope. Funny thing is years ago he hired David Goyer to write the MGS script

@BloodyBed - the director is a big Metal Gear fan and has big budget movie experience with Skull Island, which was actually pretty decent. I think this could finally be the one.

No one gives a [frick] who is producing and Arad helped jump start the current CBM craze anyways.

@HeraldNumber7 - lots of eventual movies sit in development for a while but this has had a director on it for 1.5 years who was working in the story. Now that the story is done it is going to the scripting phase. Things are moving on this.

Weird question; will Kojima have any involvement in the film?

Konami owns the license and the hate Kojima. Will Konami be cool with Sony making a MGS film with Kojima’s help?

Metal Gear Solid V was so [frick]ing terrible. Never before have I played a game with perfect gameplay but a boring dull open world with boring & dull characters doing boring & dull repetitive missions
