Microsoft Reassures Fans That Steven Spielberg's Live-Action HALO Series Is Still In The Works

There's been little to no news on the development of Steven Spielberg's live-action Halo series since the show was announced in 2013. However, Microsoft is confirming that the show is still in progress.

Steven Spielberg and Microsoft excited the gaming world when they announced their intentions to produce a new Halo live-action series for Showtime. The problem is, that was 4 years ago, and there has been no news on the subject since.

Ar12gaming got curious about whether the show was still in development or not, since there has been no substantial news on the project in some time, and asked Microsoft if the series is indeed still on their radar.
“Progress on the Halo Television Series continues,” a Microsoft Spokesperson and representative of 343 Industries confirmed to AR12Gaming. “We want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time,” Microsoft said in a statement.

There has been some speculation that Microsoft got a little gun shy when it released the Halo: The Master Chief Collection that contained a digital short which was panned by fans, and the gaming company could be rethinking their strategy with the live-action series.

@jerryblake - as a non-gamer Id say that would be probably more interesting to me than any other video game based movie, at the moment.

@Kman - they really could hurry up a little bit with that new MK movie.

This movie has been happening for the last 14 years. The franchise isn't even hot anymore. We'll see a Gears of War movie before Halo even attempts to set a release date.

Can't see it happening any time soon.

Halo should be given to Zack Snyder. Halo is a very simplistic story about humans and aliens in the future. Snyder can capture the magic of art within a Halo movie and nobody will throw a fit if Master Chief is seen killing aliens.

Microsoft made a huge mistake years ago, when they didn't make Halo into a movie. Then they made another billion dollar mistake when the sold Bungie because they thought Destiny wouldn't become as huge as Halo, but now Halo isn't anywhere as famous as it was and people want a Destiny movie instead.

I do think if MS really gets the right people together, they can make a great Halo movie, or tv show and I hope it comes soon.

I truly believe the next big thing will be video game movies. Just like how comic book movies are them now. If you remember in the past a lot of the CBMs weren't the greatest, but here we are today and the majority are.

It only takes one video game movie to be good to get the ball rolling. Resident Evil movies have sold well, and they had the chances to be that, but they just aren't the greatest.

So hopefully someday soon someone will come along that loves video games, will know how to replicate them on film and not try to make that video game into a shorter movie, but makes its own thing instead.

@BlackIceJoe - The story behind why the Halo movie failed, is quite interesting. The TL;DR version: Basically Microsoft wanted to make the movie, the way you make a game. The studios(Universal/Fox) didn't see eye-to-eye with Neil Blomkamp's vision, and didn't want to pay the money needed to produce the movie. Basically, it's no one's and everyone's fault. MS wasn't to keen on playing by movie studios rules and studios didn't want to fund it. What's left of what could have been, is the short film Blomkamp directed and the live action promos for Halo 3.

@TexasAvenger - honestly, as someone who owns both a ps4, and a high-end pc, I have no idea how anyone could possibly think that way :P

When I play with a console, I feel like someone tied my nuts to the chair. no freedom! and more expensive.

@ALostCause - Lol you're bothered you haven't played a fifth Halo? You aren't missing out on much bud. Campaign is decent, but the multiplayer is straight up garbage.

This would be so great if it happened...but the longer they wait the less interest there is. They blew their best chance for a blockbuster movie years ago, but a Showtime series could still be pretty epic. Halo has more potential than a Destiny or Gears movie if you ask me.

Storywise, Halo went downhill after Bungie sold it to 343. It needs to be a movie anyways.

Halo is such a cool world but sadly 343 seems to have ushered it to the wrong exit where the door says, "No More Magic."
