Rumor: Wonder Woman Movie On The Backburner Following Supergirl's Poor Performance

As rumours swirl about Adria Arjona playing Diana Prince in Man of Tomorrow, it appears DC Studios' Wonder Woman movie has fallen by the wayside after this summer's Supergirl bombed.

There's a huge excitement to see Adria Arjona suit up as Wonder Woman in next summer's Man of Tomorrow (assuming that's who she's been cast as), but Diana Prince's solo outing may not be heading our way as soon as hoped.

Despite reports that DC Studios is fast-tracking the movie, a new rumour suggests that Supergirl's performance—it has 53% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed only $126.4 million worldwide—is bad news for the Amazon.

According to Knight Edge Media's Caleb Williams, the Wonder Woman movie, while not cancelled, is on the back burner because of Supergirl. Williams added that "on hold" or "paused" also apply, confirming that the project is not in pre-production.

This is a disappointing update, but perhaps expected. Ana Nogueira wrote Supergirl and has since been hired by DC Studios to pen the scripts for Teen Titans and Wonder Woman. James Gunn has waxed lyrical about only moving forward with scripts the studio is happy with. However, he still has to answer to Warner Bros. Discovery, which is likely to be nervous about a Wonder Woman movie from the writer of Supergirl.

As of now, DC Studios hasn't announced anything for 2028. Clayface arrives next month and Man of Tomorrow is heading our way next summer, but that's it for now. Beyond Creature Commandos Season 2, no new TV shows have been confirmed beyond The People vs. Gorilla Grodd

Gunn has previously described Wonder Woman as a "priority," but said, "I wouldn't call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good."

That begs the question of how cameras started rolling on Supergirl, but Nogueira expressed excitement to be working on Wonder Woman while promoting that movie in June.

"[Teen Titans and Wonder Woman are] in very different stages, I’ll say that," she shared. "They’re all just such great characters, and I can’t believe I get to figure out what I would do with them the way that we did with Kara and Supergirl. But it’s still early days on both."

"It’s a huge compliment and a vote of confidence [to get the green light from James and Peter Safran]. It’s honestly quite overwhelming. I can’t even think of the size of it," Nogueira continued. "I just really try to keep my head down and make sure that I like the work that I’m doing, and that I think that it’s good work. I can’t write something that I don’t like. I can’t write something that I don’t see. I don’t have that gear."

There continue to be conflicting reports about whether the Themyscira-set Paradise Lost is moving forward. That's expected to be set hundreds of years in the past and likely won't feature Wonder Woman.

@Feralwookiee - I really have no idea why anyone is wasting their time with the Gunn DCU at this point...it's a massive waste of time. It's going to be rebooted once the results of MOT are in.That movie isn't going to do as well as Superman 2025 and Superman 2025 ended up losing money at the box.

Another rumour says Wonder Woman is already in pre-production.

More inclined to believe that.

@UltimaRex - He recently shared misleading information about The Brave and the Bold based on "my friend and I literally just ran into Muschietti outside a movie theater," so I wouldn't, personally.

Lmao - let’s not act like this site has some journalistic standards. Neither him or this guy you’re quoting in this article are legit sources.

This is the DCEU all over again; no wonder Reeves didn't want anything to do with Gunn.

Wonder Woman has little to do with Supergirl. Man of Tomorrow however...

Why the [frick] did they continue to throw money into that production after Supergirl. Whoever is in charge should have halted production on MOT immediately. Maybe they didn't want to hurt the director's feelings. Maybe the director is friends with the studio head or something.

Welp, enjoy you third superflop in a row. Maybe make a fourth one? Just keep betting on the lame horse guys, throw more money at DCU Superflops!

@ObserverIO - WB have nowhere else to go. They either push forward and hope the interest in the DCU will pick up or they cancel and reboot again.

@SenorTwats - Nah, man, this is it. If they don't turn this around, DC as a universe is done for. Nobody would be stupid enough to invest in a third reboot after two that have already miserably failed. Only Batman would survive.

Urubrodi

@ObserverIO - Female superhero movies in general tend to have a harder time in the box office, we are no longer at the times that almost every CBM would make bank. Add to that a failing universe that can't get anything right, and it's a recipe to disaster

@Toecutter - yep I agree.

Superman was the last DC film I saw in the cinema and I have 0 plans to see anything else (except The Batman 2) after that steaming pile of shit 😅

"Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good" Gunn should just shut up at this point lol So why was Supergirl shot then?
MikeyL
MikeyL - 9/8/2026, 7:16 AM
Nogueira’s work on Supergirl was the weakest part of the entire film. Her lack of cinematic experience plus Supergirl should be reason enough to remove her from Wonder Woman and Teen Titans. She is absolutely not worth risking the DCU’s reputation over.

Of course Jimmy Gunn here is only talking about the scripts not written by him.
