WONDER WOMAN 1984 Will Seemingly Retcon A Huge BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Continuity Issue

A tie-in novel for Wonder Woman 1984 reveals that the sequel retcons a lingering continuity issue established by 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Find out more details on that right here...

In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was established that Diana Prince had chosen to walk away from humanity 100 years earlier, and while Wonder Woman went some way in confirming that, it also created some continuity issues...like the hero leaping into action in the present day!

Now, Wonder Woman 1984 will reveal that the Amazon warrior was serving as an active superhero in the 1980s, fighting in the public eye and even invading the White House at one point.

Justice League also contradicted the events of Batman v Superman, when Diana mentioned that she "always came when she was called," but a tie-in novel for the sequel will go some way towards finally explaining what the Amazon really meant when she said she had walked away from humanity.

As Bleeding Cool explains, "Diana has been doing a lot of good in the world. However, she has walked away in a metaphorical sense. The trauma of seeing Steve die and then watching her friends eventually succumb to old age has left her distant from humanity even as she continually saves them. Diana has no friends and no real connection to the world, aside from her duty to save it at the beginning."

It's definitely something of a stretch, but it makes sense of that apparent plot hole and retcons another part of the DC Extended Universe originally established by filmmaker Zack Snyder.

What do you make of this apparent explanation for what's proved to be a big continuity issue for fans?

Nah. No retcon to be found in 84.
She “emotionally” walked away from mankind and she destroys all video surveillance of her superhero activities.

No issues

@IronGenesis - certainly sounds like she was the right pick to protect humanity... and apparently her sisters could care less about getting her back on the right track for decades... who writes this cr@p?

No retcon needed. None of these movies or timelines make any sense in the slightest.

It is not a retcon. It is basically 'Anything Goes'.

What?? How dare they retcon the brilliance and genius of Snyder/Terrio? Wonder Woman being a bunker baby made her more grounded.

Diana "emotionally" walks away from a group/race of people she's spent a week with?

LOL no. It was always clear in BvS that it was left intentionally vague for Patty to fill in Diana's relationship with humanity, asserting that Diana used to have a strong connection with the human race until something pulled her away, leaving her completely detached and (based on BvS) only popping up when she needed something (as evidenced by her being absent from MOS and fairly uninterested in anything until the Doomsday fight). Patty either didn't know this or she just decided to contradict it (because it was the same try-hard stuff Snyder had been spray painting on every character) and so she not only had Diana's introduction to humanity and subsequent loss of Steve occur within a very short period of time, she then had Diana triumphantly end her movie asserting herself an ally of the human race who is integrated into their world to whatever degree

I don't know why WB seems unable to just move on from their own silly mistakes. It was a bad idea when Snyder did it, and because he was wearing too many hats, he accidentally let Patty fix the mistake

Gadot had already said on the JL press tour that BvS was wrong in saying that Diana would give up on humanity for a 100 years, it was something they (the Wondy team, not Snyder) intended to correct.

All hail lord Snyder for another [frick] up!

@RageDriver2401 - That's right. I thought there was a chance they just didn't know they contradicted BvS but this reminded me she actually addressed this as a character decision they made while making BvS because they thought it was better than what BvS set up
