WONDER WOMAN Runner-Up Olga Kurylenko Recalls Auditioning For The Role With Ben Affleck

Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion) was in the running to play Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman before Gal Gadot landed the part, and the actress has now opened up about narrowly missing out on that massive role.

We already knew that Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion, The Courier) was one of three actresses on the shortlist to play Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice back in 2015, but it sounds like she just missed out on landing the role.

During an interview with THR, the French-Ukrainian actress/model revealed that she auditioned to play the iconic DC Comics heroine alongside Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne), and while she didn't actually end up donning the costume, she did wear "a bathing suit and some leather boots" for their scene.

Kurylenko calls the experience "surreal," and recalls being worried in case Affleck might want to work with a different actress after they appeared together in Terence Malick's To The Wonder.

"I like Ben as a guy, but I was worried because we had already worked together. Maybe he wouldn’t want to work with someone again. Maybe he’d want to have someone he’s never worked with before. People don’t usually play couples over and over in different films because actors change."

Of course, Gal Gadot ended up playing Diana and the rest is history, but would you guys liked to have seen Kurylenko's take on the character? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check out some hi-res screencaps from the WW84 trailer by clicking the view list button below.

There are no wrong choices here.

I still don't think that people constantly overlooking Gal's (non) acting ability with "but just look at her smile/charisma!" makes her qualify as the best choice for the character.

There was clearly a reason why she was struggling before Zack cast her, as she said.

I've always liked her. I'd love to see her in a Marvel Studios flick some day.

Actors being paired up together in multiple films, doesn't necessarily take the audience
out of it. Plus Batfleck & Wondy weren't a couple, so it would've been fine. But Snyder certainly chose wisely.

Gal is fine as Wonder Woman. I think Emily Blunt would had Knock it out of the park!

She has other options. Maybe Lashina.

I'd have no problem if Olga got another shot at being in the DC universe.

It would be funny if she got to be Donna Troy.

Eh I'm not too sure about Kurylenko as Wonder Woman. I don't really see it.

And I like Gal enough as Diana right now (especially under Patty Jenkins' wing) but she's still not the complete package for me. She's pretty, has a charming and likable presence on screen, but she doesn't nail that regalness and warrior attitude I expect. There are times when she does feel like Diana (especially when she plays off against someone else like Pine), but other times she just looks and feels like a cute model in cosplay.

Like I said, I like her enough and I wouldn't want to see her replaced. If I were to choose an actress however, it would be Gemma Arterton.

@Necropolitan - Awesome pick. It would have been great if they went with her from the start. If they reboot, it'll be a few years down the line and she'll probably have aged out of it though.

@inkniron - She was one of my top fancasts. At least she doesn't have a middle-eastern accent. I'm fine with Gal, but that does bug me a little. And then they decided to make Superman black... Shrug

@ImmovableForce - I get what they were going for since the mythological Amazons were basically Turkish. The accent in itself doesn't bother me as much as Gadot's mediocre at best acting. Guarantee that there would have only been a handful of people that actually complained if WW had an English or American accent.

Ah crap, she'd have been an excellent fit. Gadot is nice and all, but to this day she still doesn't look like WW to me.
