During last year's Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins told fans that Warner Bros. was considering releasing a spinoff focusing on the Amazons and their home of Themyscira. Later, the filmmaker claimed that she had it "all mapped out," but you have to believe the studio is waiting to see how her Wonder Woman sequel does first.
During a recent interview with Coming Soon, Connie Nielsen (who plays Diana Prince's mother, Hippolyta) was asked about returning for Wonder Woman 1984, and said that, "It was a little bit like a homecoming. We got to see everybody, hang out. It was very cute. All the girls got to get together and it was very cool."
Asked specifically about that spinoff, the actress said that she and the other cast members we'd likely see in the film, "would love to, we would love to do that."
The Wonder Woman and Aquaman franchises have been very profitable for Warner Bros., so it's no great surprise that the studio is now looking for ways to expand those. In the case of the King of Atlantis, rumour has it that we're getting a spinoff revolving around The Trench (which would include appearances from Arthur Curry and Mera).
In the case of this Amazon-led adventure, we have no idea what to expect, but Jenkins could delve into thousands of years of history with these characters long before Diana was born.
Would you guys like to see this film become a reality?
