WONDER WOMAN: Top 5 Villlains Diana Will Most Likely Come Up Against In The Sequel
Diana took on her nemesis Ares in Wonder Woman, but there are plenty of other villains that fans would love to see her do battle with in the sequel. Here are the top 5 most likely possibilities.
Though a sequel to Wonder Woman hasn't been officially greenlit just yet, the fact that Patty Jenkins' film is doing so well at the box office means it's probably only a matter of time. However, If and when Diana does return for another solo adventure, she's going to need someone new to hit after vanquishing Ares in the first movie.
Choosing the best villain for a Wonder Woman sequel is not quite as straight-forward as it seems because we still don't know if the story will be set in modern times of not. Fortunately, many of Wondy's foes have gone through several different incarnations over the years, so it could simply be a case of selecting appropriate aspects of each.
Below you'll find 5 of the bad guys I believe are most likely to feature in Wonder Woman 2.
5. Baroness von Gunther
Baroness Paula von Gunther was created by William Moulton Marston as the first recurring enemy of Wonder Woman. The character was originally written as a Nazi spy and saboteur, but would actually become an ally of Diana's later on - albeit one who could never really be trusted not to lapse back into villainy.
Depending on when the sequel will be set, Von Gunther's inclusion may have to come with some pretty major alterations. However, a later incarnation of the baddie was re-imagined as a powerful witch with occult abilities who was possessed by Dark Angel, so that could work if Wonder Woman 2 was to have a modern-day setting while also setting up Donna Troy as a character that could be utilized further down the line.
4. Doctor Psycho
Also created by William Moulton Marston, and also possessing supernatural occult powers in his early appearances, Doctor Psycho was a murderous psychologist who would face-off against Diana on numerous occasions and actually became one of the few villains to appear in Wonder Woman's Golden, Silver, and Bronze Age adventures.
The character was modernized Post-Crisis as a telepath with the ability to enter and shape other people's dreams, but one thing that's always remained was his intense hatred of all women.
If Warner Bros. is looking for a truly loathsome foil for Wonder Woman in the sequel, look no further than this deranged doctor.
3. Deimos
Also known as the God of Terror, Deimos was the son Ares and Aphrodite. The character is generally seen as more of a secondary villain in the comics, with a bit of tweaking he could be re-imagined as a mighty foe for Diana in the Wonder Woman sequel.
Though his original machinations (he attempted to kick-start a war between Russia and The US) may seem a little too similar to Ares' schemes in the first film, that fact that he is The God of War's son could work very well if he was to track Diana down in modern times seeking revenge for his father's "death".
Plus, Deimos sports a very unique, serpentine appearance which should look very cool on screen.
2. Circe
Now we get to two of the more popular villains in Diana's rogues gallery. Circe is a beautiful, evil sorceress that was actually rumored to appear in the first movie back when it was still in production, but if the character did ever feature in an early draft of the script she obviously failed to make the cut.
Over the years, this immensely powerful character has gone through as many different revamps as she has hair colors, but she has always remained one of Wonder Woman's most relentless foes.
The most recent DC Rebirth version of Circe would arguably suit a modern day setting best, and her association with the likes of Lex Luthor would held tie her story in with the wider DCEU.
1. Cheetah
Finally, we have the villain that most Wonder Woman fans seem to want Diana to face in the sequel: Cheetah. Several different characters have held this mantle, but easily the most well-known is British archaeologist Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva.
Minerva's original motivation for challenging Diana in the comics was so she could add the Lasso of Truth to her collection, but obviously that alone wouldn't fly in the movie so elements of her New 52 origin would help pad out that backstory. For example, Cheetah could first be introduced as an ally to Wonder Woman before being possessed by the Goddess of The Hunt.
Some have raised concerns that a faithful depiction of Cheetah's appearance might come across a little silly in live-action, but that could be toned down a tad without altering her vicious visage too much.
