CONFESS, FLETCH Star Jon Hamm Says He's Open To Playing Mister Sinister In MCU X-MEN Reboot (Exclusive)

Mad Men and Top Gun: Maverick star Jon Hamm talks to us about those rumours surrounding him playing Mister Sinister, revealing whether he would be open to now playing the X-Men villain in the MCU...

It's hard to say when Jon Hamm's name first started doing the rounds when it came to Mister Sinister, but 20th Century Fox's plans for the character first became apparent at the end of 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. There had been rumblings the villain might debut either in The New Mutants or Deadpool 2, and while that didn't happen, we'd bet Nathaniel Essex was going to show up soon enough.

The Disney/Fox merger then happened, of course, resulting in the rights to the X-Men reverting to Marvel Studios. Now, a reboot is on the horizon and Hamm, who was reportedly Fox's top choice to play the villain, may get a second chance at the role.

Talking to us in the video below about his role in Confess, Fletch, Hamm opened up about how close he came to playing Mister Sinister and confirmed he would still love to take a crack at the villain.

"Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes I find out more about my career from the internet than I actually find out from my agents," he started. "So, I didn't really know that was in the works until somebody told me that I didn't get it or it didn't happen."

"I really don't know. Like anybody else, I would be thrilled to be part of that storytelling having been a big comic book fan throughout my early teens and early twenties," Hamm said of Mister Sinister potentially crossing his radar again. "So, we'll see. I don't know. It would be a fun person to play, that's for sure. I look good in purple, I'll put it that way."

It's still hard to think of anyone better to bring Mister Sinister to life on screen, and we'd put money on the Top Gun: Maverick star being on Marvel Studios' radar. When the X-Men do return to the big screen, they need to face someone other than Magneto, and a villain with a special interest in genetics would be a great place to start.

Confess, Fletch arrives in theatres, On Digital, and On Demand on September 16, 2022.

Mr. Sinister is due for his life action debut. I feel his motivations would fit in nicely with the MCU

@Vigor - Just please don't use the newer, more ridiculous and comical version of him. If they do Sinister I would want him to be his more serious self. The version that is responsible for, or involved in almost every serious tragedy the X-Men have ever faced. The cryptic, more restrained Sinister.

Not the loud wisecracking one that go nuts over people's clothes and capes.

Sinister should definitely be a priority in the MCU. However, I don’t think Hamm is the best choice for the role.
My pick would be Jason Isaacs but that’s just me.

@ChrisRed - I think Hamm would do well, but Isaacs is my top choice, too.

I actually really like that casting. Kinda surprised we haven't actually seen Hamm in a CBM yet. Especially not as Batman, because he looks like a real-life Ross painting to me

@bkmeijer1 - If they ever did Kingdom Come he would be perfect.

I don’t see him as Sinister but it would be great to get Hamm in the MCU. I don’t know if I can envision the right role for him. Recasted Cable?

Mr. Sinister is 195cm in comics.
Tom Ellis is best choice from all above.
