Jennifer Lawrence Is 'Mystique' In X-Men: First Class

Casting For Mathew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class prequel, are still underway, growing rapidly. And now according to 'The Hollywood Reporter'...

Jennifer Lawrence, the actress who’s been getting rave reviews for her work in “Winter’s Bone,” has been cast as Mystique in Fox’s “X-Men: First Class.”

Jennifer Lawrence, 19, has starred in Guillermo Arriaga’s directorial debut The Burning Plain, opposite Charlize Theron. Her performance in the film earned her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young emerging actor/actress during the Venice Film Festival in 2008.

Raven Darkholme, better known as Mystique, has appeared in all three films of the "X-Men" franchise on the villainy side, played by actress Rebecca Romijn. For a recap on the mercenary, she is a mutant whose power is the ability of shapeshifting, being able to turn into anyone. Mystique assumes all physical attributes of those she is mimicing including finger prints, retinal patterns and she can shift her vocal cords to match their voice, but can't replicate powers of those she copies.

Jennifer Lawrence joins a growing ensemble including James McAvoy (Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicholas Hoult (Beast),Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havok), and recently Confirmed by Variety Emmy nominatee Kevin Bacon, as a villain whose yet to be revealed.

And in a story that focuses on Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr as young men, when discovering their powers for the first time, X-Men: First Class begins filming August in London, bowing theaters July 3rd, 2011.
