Another Actor Eyed For X-Men's Wolverine As Mystique, Juggernaut, And Nightcrawler Casting Rumors Swirl

Marvel Studios' search for the next reportedly isn't over, while Hunter Schafer is linked to Mystique and casting is underway for another major X-Men villain: the unstoppable Juggernaut.

Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is quickly taking shape before filming begins next year, and yesterday's Wolverine rumour has kicked the hornet's nest and unleashed all manner of intriguing claims.

While Jeremy Allen White has reportedly met with Marvel Studios to discuss unsheathing Logan's claws, insider @MyTimeToShineH claims The Mandalorian and Grogu star "isn't the only one in talks." In fact, "Another big name just met with Marvel about Wolverine," meaning the hunt is still on for Hugh Jackman's successor.

Over to scooper James Mack now, and he's been sharing some wild rumours on social media over the past 24 hours. He's reporting that Euphoria star Hunter Schafer has had "serious talks" about playing the MCU's Mystique, while casting for Nightcrawler and The Juggernaut is also underway. Mack is also backing up recent rumours that Onslaught star Drew Starkey is set to play the new Gambit.

While the movie is beginning to look a little crowded, many of these characters will likely only have minor roles in X-Men, and it's surely important to make sure Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is populated with mutants. X-Men '97 has done a good job of handling a large ensemble, and a revolving door of heroes on the main team is part of the appeal of this franchise.

The Juggernaut is particularly interesting, especially as he's Professor X's stepbrother. If theories that the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the Hellfire Club are set to appear in X-Men, that may explains plans for Cain Marko.

X-Men director Jake Schreier has called the reboot "an incredible opportunity and a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly," and teased his approach by saying, "That’s kind of the fun of just going back and rereading so much of it is just, like watching the cartoon growing up and like, it really does get into the ideological stuff a lot, and that’s such an endemic part of what 'X-Men' is about."

"But when you go and read those early runs, it’s good to remember how much of it is this kind of young soap opera as well. And much of the kind of division within the team often starts from personal rifts and things that are going on," he continued. "And so like just trying to make sure that it has all of the qualities of what makes 'X-Men' so incredible and what it is, you know?"

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Ben Wang (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.

@RolandD - Agree! So much in this movie was disappointing and inexcusably bad but this Juggernaut sequence was one of a handful of moments where I briefly had great fun watching Last Stand.

I think Marvel Studios is using the animated series as the blueprint and I honestly couldn't be happier.

Actually I could be, if they bring Schaffer on board as Mystique.

Starkey is too old, he's 8 years older than Navarette and 11 than Connor. Maybe because Gambit already got wife Bella Donna, he's older here.
How about Olivier Richters as Juggernaut?

I haven’t really seen Hunter act in anything as of yet but I do like the idea of having a trans-person play a shapeshifter…

However I always viewed Mystique as being older so I feel if you have her be the same age as Nightcrawler or even Rogue visually then you can’t necessarily do their familial relationship in the comics on screen atleast imo but i could be wrong.

Anyway , i think someone like Jodie Comer could make a good Mystique but we’ll see!!.

I just hope they'll follow X-Men 97's lead and provide us with some great X-Men storytelling and action sequences.

What did you think of S2?.

I liked it but felt it was a bit of a step down from season 1.

there is no f**** way Jake Schreier first X-Men film have all these many characters. Its just too much.

We dont want 1 min cameos for many X-Men. Thats what we got in many Fox films, so No F. Way Marvel should do the same.

Save some big names for the sequel so they would get a great role next time.

Spoiled with Hugh Jackman, teased with Cavill and they want to downgrade us to White ? I’d take Radcliffe over white if they’re going soft-core nerd Wolverine.

What made the Avengers films great was the introduction of each character in their own film culminating to them all being together. Then each character actually already had depth and you got the opportunity to see the dynamics between characters you already knew so well. you got to see them be heroes on their own terms, now what’s it like to see them interact, collaborate and negotiate. I’m not saying they need to give each X-men their own movie, but introduce us to Storm in Black Panther 3, to Rogue in a Captain Marvel movie (or maybe a Thunderbolts movie). The way they introduced Jean was perfect, now keep doing that with other characters until we can’t wait for an X-Men movie!

@RustyShakleford - After I saw what they did to Jean, I wonder where they could introduce Scott Summers if they had to introduce him before X-Men. I want him to be an established hero in the universe. Someone Xavier is championing for the Mutant cause and the complete opposite of how Jean was introduced.

Give the general audience and the universe's general population to debate on if these X-Men are actually heroes.

Scott's the perfect boyscout poster child for a heroic Mutant fighting the good fight.
