Brian Michael Bendis Is Still Writing Tim Miller's 143 Despite Fox's Marvel Movies Being On Hold - EXCLUSIVE

Earlier this month, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that all Fox Marvel movies have been put on hold but Brian Michael Bendis has now provided us with a very interesting update about 143...

At the start of February, Superman writer Brian Michael Bendis made headlines when he told a fan on Twitter that he's still working on the secretive "Project 143" for director Tim Miller. Rumour has it that the movie will revolve around Kitty Pryde but roughly 24 hours after his Tweet, longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed that all of Fox's Marvel movies were on hold.

So, you'd think that would pretty much be it for the project, right? Well, I spoke to Brian yesterday about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (we'll have that up on the site tomorrow) and he once again reiterated that, as of right now, he's still penning the screenplay.

"I'm literally working on it today. I know there's confusion and guesswork about what's going on with Fox and Disney but I have no information about that. I do not know what is going on with anything other than that I have been contracted to do something I'm very excited to do with someone I really, really like as a creator. I think Tim is one of the best ever and I'm having a really good time doing it so we'll see what happens. Honestly, I was literally taking a break from writing it to check Twitter the other day and someone said 'Hey, what's going on with that thing?' and I said I'm working on it right now but didn't realise that was news so, yeah, I'm still working on it."

As of right now, Disney would not legally be able to have any sort of say about what's happening behind the scenes at Fox but you have to believe that Marvel Studios will want to at least consider keeping the impressive team of Bendis and Miller around, even if that that requires some major rewrites to the very interesting sounding female-led spinoff movie.

Either way, Kitty Pryde is a great character who deserves to be done justice on the big screen, so here's hoping we get to learn more about what "Project 143" has in store for her in the near future.

Should...should we tell him?

He may get paid for finishing the draft or something. Plus, if there's anything good or interesting in the script, it's always there for Marvel Studios to appropriate if they want. (Having a Kate Pryde Days of Future Past TV series or something could be a lot of fun if you can find an uncanny likeness for young and old Kitty.)

Very interesting. I don't think Feige is the type of guy to just dismiss what could be a great idea or acquisition to the MCU simply because it originated at Fox. If he has a say, I think he'll keep all options open.

Delusional. Cancel all the Fox Men. Disney also needs to turn it's attention to buying Sony so they can get rid of Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Those idiots need to go. I loved Spiderman into the spider verse but those two morons I just mentioned probably had little to do with the success of that movie.

Not writing off several of these scripts might find their way into the MCU World. It’s not like they are cranking out Shakespeare with many CBM properties.

Russo Brothers were very high on Noah Hawleys Doctor Doom Script/Concept.

I wonder if Disney owns those scripts once purchasing FOX.

@IronGenesis -

"I wonder if Disney owns those scripts once purchasing FOX."

Almost definitely, they literally bought all of Fox's film division which would give them the rights to all projects and licenses owned by Fox.

@LongMayHeReign - perhaps it’s something as simple as...

Bendis finishing the script and Tim Miller pitching it to Feige. Then seeing if their “vision” can fit in the MCU

@IronGenesis - Yup Feige wouldn't be as successful as he is if he just turned down ideas that he didn't come up with first. Even if their vision doesn't fully fit into the MCU as currently constructed they could always tweak it to fit the larger narrative.

I don’t even know what significance the number 143 has for Marvel or any of its characters.

@NinnesMBC - 143 is a Kitty Pryde centric issue of Uncanny X-Men.

"I'm literally working on it today."

Kev walks in***

Brina: Hey Kev how's it goi----

Feige shuts Brian's laptop and proceeds to take it***

Feige:

He probably gets paid for just putting in a rough draft though.

Why are people still hating on good ol' Brian Bendis?

He ran outta good stories after he created Miles Morales, but his work over at DC is PHENOMENAL.

You guys need to check out his Superman, Batman, and Young Justice comics.

NOW.

Hating on Bendis is soooo last year.

@MaximusTheMad - I think his Superman is terrible, but I am enjoying Young Justice quite a bit.

@MaximusTheMad - Hating on Bendis is "last year" because Bendis' writing has been horrible for the last decade. Pretending to like Bendis is the new "cool" thing to do.

So, you know, enjoy your Superman and his new super beard growth ability.

As long as Bendis isn't bringing timetraveling teens or the gay Iceman, then I'm all for it. I tend to enjoy his work. Only new Fox movies are on hold. Iger said that everything already on the slate was still happening. Kinberg confirmed that Gambit is about to start production, and Deadpool's XForce is a sure bet. If Bendis is still working on a script, then you can be sure that someone at Marvel gave him the go-ahead.
