Chris Petrikin On The Success Of X-Men: First Class And Sequels

Before X-Men: First Class was released in theatres, many thought that the film will be a failure at the box office and that it will receive negative reviews. But, with a solid opening weekend at the box office in US and international market, Matthew Vaughn's critically acclaimed film managed to collect $350 million during its theatrical run. Considering that the previous two X-Men films were negatively received, this success is definitely a step forward in right direction for the franchise. In an article over at Reuters.com, Fox Filmed Entertainment spokesman Chris Petrikin briefly talked about studio's reaction to the film:

"We regard 'X-Men' as a huge success," he said. "It reignited the franchise and has done more than $350 million worldwide." He added that the film performed strongly enough for Fox to make more sequels in the future and characterized the film division's overall performance as "terrific."

Fox had another surprise hit this summer, at that was Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes which was also well received. All in all, I am really glad to hear that they are happy with the results and that we will see more films. What are your thoughts on X-Men: First Class sequel?

X-Men: First Class is now available on DVD & Blu-Ray!

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS unveils the epic beginning of the X-Men saga – and a secret history of the Cold War and our world at the brink of nuclear Armageddon. As the first class discovers, harnesses, and comes to terms with their formidable powers, alliances are formed that will shape the eternal war between the heroes and villains of the X-Men universe.

I thought the movie was going to suck until the trailer came out. Then I had to go see the movie in theaters instead of watching it online like everybody else.

I went and saw it, and the first thing I thought after the movie was over was "they need to make another one".

I have to admit, I liked First Class more after I bought it on Blu-Ray. I'll even go as far to say that now i think it is more enjoyable than Thor and Cap. Still, it sucks that they are making a sequel instead of rebooting it a few years down the line. As many things that this movie got right, they mutilated the continuity from the first 3 films, horribly. And even IF it was supposed to be a reboot, which it wasn't, the new continuity that it set up is ridiculous.

I understand Fox doesn't want to lose the rights, but at least think about what you are doing...

JatevinM - 10/5/2011, 10:40 AM
The sequel needs to be set in like the 70's or the 80's and it needs to have Storm, Cyclops, Jean, and Forge added as well as use either Sinister or the Shadow King as the villain.

I though is a great movie.. And I think that they have to think in did a sequel as fast as possible to use the sucsses of First Class... and maybe do First Class 2 and X-Men 4 in the same year with a history that links both of then... They start a history who have consequences in the future, that we see in X-Men 4.. something like that. I think that could be work.

We have 2 great movies with X1 and X2... and they made a weak movie in X3 and a terrible one with Wolverine. It´s time to Fox to use the sucsses of First Class to sabe the franchise. I don´t think that a sequel will work if they wait a long time to do it.

YAY!
First Class was awesome, it was so stylish, true to the time era, great special effects and incredible acting. I couldn't have asked for more. Sure it wasn't exactly 100% from the comics, but I felt it all worked together perfectly.

I'd love to see a sequel, I really would! (:
Well, for 1 reason:

KNIGHT3000 I felt that way too. We just need to use our imaginations and come up with some reasons. Maybe he was cured, teamed up with Erik again, then another falling out and Magneto (or some other villian)cripples him. When you start to think outside what is seen, continuity won't be much of an issue.
I also wondered why Erik had dark brown hair when in the comics it was always white. Went and watched X1 and noticed his magnetic field machine started to turn Rogue's hair white until Wolvie stopped it. Hopefully we see white hair in a sequel to the prequel.
Hey people if Starwars can pull it off, X-Men can.

Still sucked.

The worst movie I've seen in a long time, and trust me, I've seen some rubbish. Fox bought up all the media outlets, that's what they're good at. Not actually making good movies, but making poor ones and convincing everyone they're good.

@MovieTheaterLad

There are dozens of other topics where I have, at depth, detailed my reasons for not enjoying this movie. I really don't feel the need to go over old ground, especially as every time I think about First Class I just get riled up.

To summarise, poor acting, cheesy as hell, weirdly pieced together, childish, unintentionally funny (Teen Wolf), and overly self-indulgent ... Dammit, you've got me started and I feel like Bruce Banner and can feel the rage taking over!

And BTW, I'm not generally anti-Fox. This will be the first X-Men movie (Wolverine included) that I'm NOT going to purchase on DVD/Blu-ray.
