Before
X-Men: First Class was released in theatres, many thought that the film will be a failure at the box office and that it will receive negative reviews. But, with a solid opening weekend at the box office in US and international market, Matthew Vaughn's critically acclaimed film managed to collect $350 million during its theatrical run. Considering that the previous two X-Men films were negatively received, this success is definitely a step forward in right direction for the franchise. In an article over at
Reuters.com, Fox Filmed Entertainment spokesman Chris Petrikin briefly talked about studio's reaction to the film:
"We regard 'X-Men' as a huge success," he said. "It reignited the franchise and has done more than $350 million worldwide." He added that the film performed strongly enough for Fox to make more sequels in the future and characterized the film division's overall performance as "terrific."
Fox had another surprise hit this summer, at that was Rupert Wyatt's
Rise of the Planet of the Apes which was also well received. All in all, I am really glad to hear that they are happy with the results and that we will see more films. What are your thoughts on
