COMICS: Brian Michael Bendis Responds To Reports Marvel Can't Create New X-MEN Characters

Uncanny X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis has addressed reports that Marvel are no longer creating new mutants in order to spite the studio which holds the movie rights. In terms of classic characters though, we also have news and artwork confirming the return of Juggernaut!

There's been a lot of talk lately about Marvel cancelling the Fantastic Four comic book ahead of the movie next year, and a recently released teaser made it appear as if the X-Men could be next. One interview even surfaced which featured legendary writer Chris Claremont seemingly confirming past reports that Marvel creators have been banned from coming up with any new mutants in a bid to stop Fox from benefitting from them. Well, not so according to Brian Michael Bendis (via Newsarama). "If you've been reading my books, almost every character is a new one. I'm not exactly sure where that's coming from. I'm constantly creating new X-Men to put them in the toy box. I've been doing it constantly." That's very true, but there's no getting around the fact that the X-Men are being pushed aside as Marvel continues to focus on the characters they do hold the rights to particularly when it comes to merchandise and placement in teasers for upcoming stories.

Regardless, the comics aren't going anywhere just yet and Hero Complex have the scoop on the return of one fan-favourite villain early next year; The Juggernaut! "This story has two leads, Colossus and Cain Marko, two very different men that have possessed the power of the Juggernaut before, and who have both suffered for it," reveals Amazing X-Men writer Christopher Yost. "When we catch up with Cain, he’s still big and somewhat strong, but nowhere near to what he was with the Juggernaut’s power. But he’s turned his back on the supervillain — it’s brought him nothing but trouble. He’s found peace. And that’s when the Gem comes back of course." The arc - titled "The Once And Future Juggernaut" - wil see a number of other characters vying for the mantle as well. What are your thoughts on this news? Sound off below!

Man. Even when the quote would refute the whole idea, you just can't help but to add a little bit of you're own 2 cents just to ensure you stir the nerds up some more.

The reporting and reaction to this topic are tiresome.

I'd like to see a tiny girl with the Gem of Cyttorak. Like Pixie. Why not? The Juggernaut doesn't need to be huge.

I really wish Fox could add this aspect to the X-Men films. That gem would really bring forth an all new element to the films.

Fantastic Four is being cancelled because no one reads it, it's that simple. If Marvel was trying to distance itself from the film, don't you think Kevin Feige would have his Executive Producer credit taken off of Fantastic Four? And do you think Josh Trank would really want to do a Star Wars movie for Disney if they were trying to sabatoge his biggest movie yet?

Lol, read up dude. FF's sales have been dropping off for years.

http://bigcomicpage.com/2014/05/31/the-fantastic-four-situation-broken-down/

http://www.denofgeek.com/books-comics/marvel/30773/x-men-fantastic-four-marvel-fox-and-a-rumoured-conspiracy

Here's 2 links that speak to FF's sales problems. Marvel's first family doesn't have the selling power it used to, and it shows in sales numbers.

It's not like Fox needs the comics to succeed. The only company this move would hurt is Marvel, as 90%+ of the moviegoing audience doesn't read comics anyways. The only possible issue for Fox would be the merchandising, as they would receive a percentage of merch sales. But the whole thing reeks of internet conspiracy, drummed up by whiny fanboys that feel the Fantastic Four reboot is shitting on source ( even though the much closer to source original movies were not well received at all).
