First Look At Rila Fukushima As Yukio In THE WOLVERINE

Hit the jump to get your first look at the model turned actress dressed as Yukio, standing next to Logan (Hugh Jackman), in James Mangold's The Wolverine.

Another photo has surfaced from yesterday's filming of The Wolverine, that took place at the Zojoji Temple. This time it features our first look at Rila in her Yukio costume, and with an unexpected coloring of red in her hair.

Rila has the honor of playing, in my opinion, the best role in the film. Yukio is a blood-thirsty assassin that is ordered to kill Logan/Wolverine, but soon develops a crush on him when she witnesses his exceptional killing prowess. She is one of the two love interests in Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's "Japanese Saga," with Mariko being the other.

Mariko is frightened by Logan's brutality, while Yukio smiles with glee as Wolverine slices though his enemies. The two love interests represent paths that Logan must choose. With Yukio the path is easy, he is already the man/animal that she loves. The more savage he becomes, the more excited she becomes. However the path to Mariko's heart may be more difficult, but it will lead Logan on a journey of self-control and honor, which deep down is what he truly wants.

“Reminds me of me. Maybe that’s why I like her.” - Wolverine

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), from a script written by Christopher McQuarrie.. The cast includes: Hugh Jackamn (Logan/Wolverine), Svetlana Khodchenkova (Viper), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shingen), Hal Yamanouchi (Yashida), Tao Okamoto (Mariko), Rila Fukushima (Yukio), Brian Tee (Norubo Mori), and Will Yun Lee (Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai). The film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

The problem was that almost cliche Hollywood saying "Model turned actress". She could be good, but why hire a model and see if they can act when could hire someone who can and has proven acting ability.

personally i didnt mind origins on first viewings, my main gripe was how they butchered deadpool and gambit, gambit used to be my fav xman and deadpool i thought was epic from a young age, after multiple viewings it now seems a tad cheesy n tho there are some real good parts and acting, wolverine should be darker and more brutal, now this aint ever gonna get an 18 or R rating but i do personally think they are going to go down a lot darker route and make wolverine a lot more badass, im just intrigued as to how they are going to cover mariko and the enemies in this film, i hope it doesnt go on some camp comic book romp and end up too cheesy, but we shall see

@Knightrider: Because hot women sell crappy movies. Examples:

Resident Evil
Transformers II & III
Piranha 3D

@Knightrider, but think of how many actors we wouldn't have today if producers didn't take chances on models.

Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew Fox, Milla Jovovich, Chloe Sevigny, Cameron Diaz, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn, Halle Berry, Monica Bellucci, Julia Roberts, Jessica Lange, Kim Basinger, Jennifer Connelly, Rachel Weisz, Julianne Moore are all models turned actors.

That's how a lot of actors get their start.

I'm very interested to see how this will turn out, I mean I've always enjoyed Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and have grown up watching him play the character, through the good films (X-Men, X2) and the bad (X3, X-Men Origins), and even his cameo in the best X-Men film so far is memorable. Origins was an atrocity, but this could be great. I mean Aranofsky was set to direct, and he only dropped out because of family commitments. As for James Mangold, the only film of his that I've seen is 3:10 to Yuma, and I think it's a brilliant movie, and I expect The Wolverine will have a similar tone.

As for the character's hair being red, I think maybe that could be a reference to Jean, in the same way that Rose in the Origin comic book had red hair and his subconscious memory of her hair is part of the reason he falls in love with Jean.

So have they officially said for sure when this movie takes place? Is it in the 1980's or are they putting it in the present day? Hugh Jackman isn't getting any younger.

I like the idea of having her in the movie. Hope she has the "razor darts" or whatever that she throws as her main weapon.
And I was wondering if anyone knew if Viper would be in this as well???
