Liev Schreiber May Not Be Coming Back For "Wolverine 2"

The folks at Cinema Blend spoke with Liev Schreiber the other day during a press junket for his upcoming film, "Taking Woodstock", and touched base on what his future may be in the X-Men franchise...

As many fans..and even non fans of "X Men Origins: Wolverine" are well aware, Schreiber's turn as Victor Creed was by far the highlight of the movie. So its unfortunate that the talented actor may not be returning for future movies.

Speaking to Cinema Blend Schreiber had this to say...

“I’m over 40 now, and do I really want to go through the physical stuff that it took to pull that off again? I’m not so sure.”

Cinema Blend’s Katey Rich made a good point on this, saying that Schreiber may not have much of a choice, assuming he’s signed to a multi-picture contract (which is pretty standard for these genre movies at Fox Studios).

That being said, if he doesn’t want to come back, its doubtful his friend Hugh Jackman would force his return as a contractual obligation.

Continuing his thoughts on the Wolverine sequel, Schreiber said,

“As an audience member, I’d be really interested to see how you’d go from the Liev Schreiber Victor Creed to the Tyler Mane Victor Creed [from X-Men]. So I’d like to see that.”

Wouldn't we all want to see the chimps with typewriters at Fox come up with a story on that one!

I really hope Schreiber does decide to come back as Creed, if Jackman can do it, so can he!

I guess they could get another actor, and make him look closer to what he look like in the first X-men not exact but like he is evolving into what he was in X-men. Even if he comes back I hope they change the way he looks.

What could have been.

The whole thing needs to be rebooted. Come back with the costumes and all, if you tried to put spiderman in a leather jumpsuit people would shit. Do it right with a new cast stick to the source material.

Damn, he was one of the best things about Wolverine! :( they didnt even resolve the story between the two characters at the end of the movie so if theres no Sabertooth at all in the sequel it'll be a damn mess! and you just know after how they [frick]ed up Deadpool that if they brought the character back with a new actor there would be an idiotic explanation behind it!!!

fadawn: yes, thats exactly what they should do - if they can put Spider-Man in his costume then they canput the X-Men in costume - especially the Astonishing era outfits which are realistic AND faithful to the original outfits!

I think Jackman lives for this shit. The talks of Wolverine 2 and rumored release aimed for 2012 make's the 5th time he's played the character! 5th time! Anyone actor who would stick with a character that long has to have a higher level of respect and appreciation for the character. Most actors get bored or paranoid that they'll forever be associated and known by that character. This article is a good example of that. Liev shouldn't have touched the character if he wasn't prepared to see it out.

There should be some scenes in the next movie showing Creed going back into the weapon-x program and becoming more mutated. I'd love to see Tyler Mane back as Sabretooth, and have him start the hunt for his brother that would lead into the beginnings of X-1.

This is not really shocking because Sabretooth was not in the story where Logan went to Japan. But they could always just change things around.

Myth- thats why I like Jackman because to me he does seem to love this character. And I agree that studios need to find actors that are willing to reprise their roles beyond one movie. Hell even though they killed the Goblin in the first Spiderman William Defoe still made an appearance in all 3 movies.

Anil: i blame Singer! Sabertooth shouldnt have been included in X-Men 1 and theres too many other mistakes to go over again but right now the whole X-Men franchise is in a real mixed up mess!

He was great in the flick. If he grew his hair a bit put him in costume that would be the shit. They should go with costumes like in dare devil. Leather, dark and gritty, but still true the comics.

Sabertooth did know Wolverine in X-1, why do you think he took his dog tags. He probably has some memory damage like his brother, but he knew damn well they had a past together, watch X-1 again
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/13/2009, 1:47 PM
thats actually a good point but Singer handled the character horribly - a scene with Sabertooth taunting Wolverine about his past and them having a fight would have beenmuch better than the lame ass Wolverine vs Wolverine (Mystique) fight!!

THIS is what i want to see in an X-Men movie...it wouldnt look any worse than Spider-Man's costume or Cap's costume will! its better than those damned identical characterless leather outfits!

Liev Schrieber rocked as Sabretooth but its good that he is not in the next Wolverine as it would make no sense that Wolverine doesnt know him in X1. However, I would like to see him in a X4 as a Marauder working for Mr Sinister but made up to look more like Tyler Mane

fadawn and joshw24

Enough with this reboot crap. God you are like the bloody people in Hollywood that wanna reboot every bloody franchise. So you want to see Magneto and all that shit again! They should continue on in a X4 and X5 and introduce Apocalypse and Mr Sinister! Not go back and reboot everything. You know, not everything has to be so close to the bloody comics, or then you would know what the entire plot of a movie and it would suck. And you are complaining about the costumes? So you wanna see adults running about in [frick]ing brightly coloured spandex (it was ok for Spider-Man because he was an immature teenager) I liked their suits in the trilogy, they were basically the Ultimate X-Men suits. They would look rediculous in their Astonishing X-Men suits. You know the majority of people who watch the X-men movies are non-comic book fans and they would laugh at their comic costumes! You keep forgetting that these movies are mostly made for the general public as well as us true fans. If it was up to people like you, we would have Batman in spandex and Jean Grey would be possessed by an alien bird! Now for the prequels they are supposedly making, I think they should give them costumes closer to the comics because they are teenagers and it would be more understandable. I would like to see that

dancingmonkey08: yeah and the Ultimate X-Men and their costumes were so "popular" the comic book has just been cancelled! the costumes in the picture above would notlook at all ridiculous - think of all the character who we're going to see in costumes in the next few years...Captain America, Thor, Deadpool, Ant-Man/Giant Man & The Wasp (possibly)...now if they can get away with those outfits why cant we have the X-Men in proper costumes? and how can they possibly do an X-4 without it being a complete mess? Jean Grey is dead, Prof. X is dead, Cyclops is dead, Rogue is powerless, and characters like Colossus and Shadowcat were handled so badly in X-3 they barely had 10 lines between them so those two and Wolverine and Storm arent going to make for a great team! Im not saying do a full reboot but the franchise is so messy and mixed up it seems inevitable. however, if they follow the example of 'The Incredible Hulk' and reform the team with the original characters and forget the past 3 shit films then they could carry on from there! and actually i think the films would be better if they were slightly closer to the comic books - just look how [frick]ed up Dr Dooms rigins were in FF or how Galactus was a freakin cloud in FF2!! :)

@joshw24-- Your puttin the cart before the horse just a little dont you think? While I have a Hellovalot more faith in Marvel staying true to thier own characters than any other company, we have yet to see the costumes on Thor or Captain America. It could be some screwed up mess, though I hope not.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/13/2009, 2:56 PM
Sorry Josh but i agree with dancing monkey. Nothing is too badly broke not to be fixed. Prof X is not dead if you kept watching until after the credits. Cyclops and Jean can easily come back..how many times has she died and come back to life in the comics? You know dead does not mean dead in super hero reality! Sure some characters will always remain slightly altered from the comics but that's the nature of the beast. Rebooting those movies would be a silly move because for the most part they were damn good! They just need to get back on track with a writer that knows what the hell he is doing, and a non hack director would help too! Costumes smostumes. They don't matter a damn to the story or the characters and they are the most important things. I'm not saying i wouldn't want to see some variation on them myself, but its not a deal breaker. I'll be happy with Sinister or Apocalypse..and Rogue can always get her flight and strength too.

Reboots are for wimps!

yea, didn't jean die in the 2nd, they brought her back in the 3rd. and maybe the cure didn't actually work, it may have been limited, then bam! rogue, magneto and mystique get they're powers back. bring on mr sinister!
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/13/2009, 3:22 PM
Ror: what you're saying is right but just think how long it'll take to explain the return of those 3 key characters! a SLIGHT reboot like with The Incredible Hulk would make things much easier - i just cant see how else they could carry on the franchise without making it messier than it already is! :( there are plenty of solutions but i think it would take far too long to put it all on the big screen - the 'How's?' 'Why's' and 'When's' would take up half the film! If they started the film off with Emma Frost as the new headmistress, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Shadowcat and Beast they could have the Mr.Sinister story and bring Cyclops back by having him as Sinisters prisoner or something!?! Im not usually a fan of reboots but this and the FF both need them (hell which CBM by Fox doesnt!?)

Hawksblueyes: from all evidence so far Marvel havent screwed things up when it comes to costumes so lets hope they wont!
