Marvel Studios' X-Men Reboot Actively Seeking Actor To Play The MCU's Iceman

We're one step closer to seeing the original five X-Men share the screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Marvel Studios is reportedly looking to cast Bobby Drake, a.k.a. the astonishing Iceman.

Marvel Studios has assembled an impressive cast for its X-Men reboot, and as we write this, it's only two mutants short of having the original "First Class." Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Angel have been found, meaning we're only missing Beast and Iceman.

Casting for Hank McCoy is thought to be underway, but what of Bobby Drake? Well, according to Knight Edge Media's Caleb Williams, Marvel Studios is actively searching for an actor to play the MCU's Iceman.

The insider, who broke the news that Star Wars: Episode IX has found its director, took to social media to write, "Iceman/Bobby Drake is currently casting for the X-Men reboot. He is one of the first members to meet Jean Grey in the X-Mansion."

Will we see this team, with Rogue and Storm thrown in for good measure? Or could the original five mutants assemble first before they add some new faces to the roster? We'll have to wait and see.

Iceman gives the X-Men reboot another powerful mutant with plenty of potential. His ability to manipulate moisture makes him capable of creating everything from weapons and shields to massive ice structures, offering plenty of opportunities for visually striking action sequences.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Iceman debuted in 1963's X-Men #1 as one of the team's original five members. Capable of manipulating moisture and freezing it into ice, Bobby can create ice constructs, freeze opponents, and fully transform his body into ice.

Initially portrayed as the youngest and more lighthearted member of the team, he has grown into one of the X-Men's most powerful members and is now considered an Omega-level mutant. Bobby eventually came out as gay, making him one of Marvel's most prominent LGBTQ+ superheroes.

Shawn Ashmore played Iceman in Fox's X-Men movie franchise. He first appeared as Bobby in 2003's X2: X-Men United, and returned in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.

Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.

X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.

Isnt it weird that Marvel/Jake starting doing auditions/castings since May/June..... and they havent found Iceman and Beast actors yet?

one would guess Marvel Studios and Sarah Finn would have thousands of tapes and list of up and coming/young stars on their radar already. Thats why I find it weird that casting Iceman and Beast is taking them so long.

@gambgel - It's not that weird. Don't forget, by the time these rumors get out and we hear about them, things have been in the works for months. How many times have sites like these reported actors being "added to the cast" just weeks before a movie is released when the film was actually completed months prior. Not sure when this movie is slated to begin actual filming, but contracts often arent finalized until days (sometimes hours) before an actor shows up on set.

I believe they will show the original 5 first then have side stories with Rogue and Storm in the movie that ties in with the story the 5 are experiencing until it all comes together and Storm and Rogue join the team in the end. Maybe Rogues will tie to Mystique whose tied to Sinister. Sinister to Scott. Panther may have just sent Storm to the mansion. Who knows. Glad we'll see the original 5.

@hue66 - That sounds like a cool idea. Tho I think Storm would join early in the movie or mid movie, so she will be the actual first recruit after the O5.

Rogue switching sides in the final battle would be great, yeah. So O5 first, then Storm, and finally Rogue so the film will end with 8 X-Men. Pretty nice for a first film imo.
Then the sequel can add 3 more (another 3 fan favourites. Maybe Kitty, Nightcrawler and Gambit? or Kitty, Colossus and Psylocke. who knows)

@hue66 - yeah I agree. I think we are getting an original 5, rogue was cast to play a villain in at least one movie and storm will be in the black panther movie. I think that would really build that feeling of a shared universe if we don’t even see those two in an X-men movie until the second one

@hue66 - I agree that’s a great plot suggestion! I do think storm may be added to the og 5 to round them out. It creates both diversity and adds a better balance of women without forcing it at all. I’m glad they’re including her in general sand the black panther connection is to good to not include as well

Haven't read Marvel in quite some time. Didn't know they made Bobby gay. And after having thought about it for all of 2.5 seconds, nah, couldn't care less.

How about Cooper Hoffman? Talented young actor. His The Long Walk co-star is the new Black Panther. Could be cool to see them share a screen again in the MCU.
