The Hollywood Reporter has provided a very interesting update about what's happening with Fox's Marvel movies and the near future is now looking a lot clearer. For starters, Gambit is still looking for a director and the latest draft of the screenplay is expected to be delivered to the studio next month. It's already been greenlit and that means the studio has budgeted it, so the movie isn't dead quite yet.

X-Force meanwhile is set to begin shooting in October and the plan is still for Drew Goddard to take the helm of the spinoff after penning the screenplay. Both Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin will star.

Here's where things get really interesting, though; the additional photography taking place this summer for Josh Boone's The New Mutants (which has a new release date of February 22nd, 2019 after originally being slated for release this year) will be inserting a new character! It's not clear whether that's another young mutant, a villain, or even a high profile cameo but start speculating now.

Oh, and that Doctor Doom movie from Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley is still being developed. Why? "They have to proceed as business as usual in case the merger doesn't go through," one agent reveals. "It's a unique position to be in." What do you guys think about this update?

I love the MCU and the X-Men Universe. I just don't want the MCU to become a continuity mess like the X-Men Universe has by retconning in mutants. Plus, X-Men came out 18 years ago - Magneto and Professor X were the perfect ages to be kids in the 1940s. They're a bit too old now, so unless MCU Magneto is Cambodian or grew up in Omarska, I don't know if that'll work. Hopefully even if they reboot the X-Men Universe, it'll remain in a separate universe, like that Cumberbatch article indicated Multiverse.

Another part of me doesn't want the X-Men Universe to end either. I grew up on it and it'd been in my life for 17 years. True, I kind of consider "my" X-Men Universe to be over given that Logan ended the original cast and now the reboot cast is what's what. Hopefully any remaining movies they give are good and hopefully the MCU X-Men (if they happen) are more Black Pantherish.

@Yaf - why do you torture yourself with the very idea of Logan being the end all be all to the XCU?

@Yaf - “so unless MCU Magneto is Cambodian”

Yes! I posted my idea one in another comment a few weeks ago which has Magneto being Cambodian and surviving the Khmer Rouge. I fancasted Chow Yun Fat. I think it would be awesome!

@TRexx21 - it's pathetic to call strangers liars. i have not paid to see an x-film or saw one in theaters since X-MEN FIRST CLASS. I only watched DOFP and Logan on pirated and hated them both and I have not watched Apocolypse and wont watch Dark Phoenix.

That is the truth. period.

@PBIRD - So then why even post about Xmen movies if you've completely checked out of them... You're not winning some cool award by telling people you're avoiding these movies, yet you seem compelled to comment about them...kinda seems like a part of you is still interested in it. Stop hating yourself and go ahead and take a peak, you'll survive...I promise.

AAANNNNDDDD...I don't know you from a can of paint. I can tell you I have blue skin and you would either have to believe me or not since you don't know me. I don't have to believe ANYTHING you say, because you're just words on a screen as far as I'm concerned.

Was the Villain in these ever announced?
Yaf
Yaf - 2/27/2018, 10:10 AM
@TheAccuser - Demon Bear, essentially the core manifestation of Danielle Moonstar's powers. Kind of like if Green Lantern made a projection that came to life and tried to destroy the Corps.

I think i came here to know more about a certain X-23 movie and...got nothing!

What the hell Josh!

Curious about New Mutants, actually hyped about X-Force, and i doubt Gambit will ever see the light of day and at this point i don't even care.
Still interested in that Dr.Doom movie tho.

Fox spent twenty years slacking off. Now it's finals week and they're trying to cram two decades of continuity and worldbuilding into a little more than a year.

It's going to be a mess if Disney doesn't end up buying them, because they'll have to live with all these snap decisions, whereas Feige will just cleanly reboot. If the Disney deal does go through, all this is likely to result in is Deadpool being rebooted too.

Based on his first movie, it could have been fudged, but with Reynolds being their new Jackman sticking thumbs in every pie, I doubt Feige will want to deal with that snarl.

@Spock0Clock - Yeah, I suppose that there’s a decent chance. Reynolds will have already done 3 films as Deadpool at least by the time any rights transfer... that used to be all one really expected of an actor playing the same character.

Add in the possibility of a misfire draining audience demand for more and they may decide to rest the character anyway.

@Spock0Clock -
I think they are doing aaall of this for the same reason that hack Tsujihara refused to postpone JL during that AT&T merger.
They want to show confidence, stay relevant in they eyes of those Disney guys.
Maybe a bit of both, the fact that for them this is business as usual makes sense, but to make THIS many CBMs? Yeah, that's fishy.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 2/27/2018, 10:36 AM
(I was counting Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and X-force as the three times, btw... I guess it’s four if you count Wolverine: Origins... but who would?)

Regardless, Disney can afford to take a “wait and see” approach to the character before worrying about how to work him into any ongoing MCU.
