Simon Kinberg Reveals Which Key X-MEN Character We'll Definitely See In NEW MUTANTS

Josh Boone's New Mutants is in the works, but we still don't know when it'll be released. Could that be because it will be the next stage in the X-Men franchise? It seems like a possibility.

With recent rumours pointing to Professor X and Storm showing up in New Mutants, speculation that this franchise could be the next step for the X-Men (as the focus is shifted to a new, younger team of heroes) began to run rampant. Well, it now sounds like this spinoff - which will more than likely take aim at the Young Adult crowd to maximise profits - could very well be connected to the main movies.

Talking to Collider to promote the upcoming release of X-Men: Apocalypse, producer Simon Kinberg told them that they hope to start shooting New Mutants early next year, and confirmed that we will indeed end up seeing a certain bald headed mutant. "Right now, as the movie exists, Professor X would be a part of a New Mutants movie." It's worth noting of course that James McAvoy's contracted appearances as Charles Xavier are now over, so which version we'll get is unclear. Either way, it seems like this group will also call Westchester home, though what decade they'll hail from is unclear. It is of course worth noting that it was said earlier this year that Negasonic Teenage Warhead was wearing a New Mutants uniform in Deadpool). For now, we'll have to wait and see.

Either way, New Mutants has a lot of potential, and it will be interesting to see how closely it ties into the main X-Men franchise. Are you glad to hear that the cast is likely going to include Professor X?

@xinstituto - I've been reading comics for decades; believe me, the art is poor compared to some of its contemporaries.

Compare that art, to, say, 1975's X-Men with the "new" team after Giant sized.

Well that was confusing. I want the classic New Mutants team which sounds like what we are getting but a few small short cameos would be great to out the movie in context.

I would prefer this to occur in Deadpool timeline and highlight Colossus' relationship with Magik and perhaps even include a sister vs protege dynamic between Magik and Negasonic; which would fit the YA theme.

I think the new mutant films should take place in the present and that way they could interact with Deadpool.

I sometimes get disorientated writing articles without a Next button in them.

it should happen meanwhile Deadpool, like Nagasonic is a NM, but she is busy with Colossus, While Cable is the new Xavier School director. Accurate to the comics and fit to Deadpool timeline, also set the X-force movie along with Deadpool 1 and 2.
