RESULTS: What Did You Think Of X-Men: First Class?

Fox and Matthew Vaughn would have seemed to be on to a winner here on CBM with First Class being very popular among us geeks. But did the results of last week's poll reflect that?

Feature Opinion

Yes, they did! Unsurprisingly enough First Class received most votes in the top two most positive options.

38.31% of you felt the movie was very good, followed closely by 37.95% of you feeling that it was among the best CBMs out there. Here are the full results..

Check out my review of X-Men: First Class HERE if you're interested, and keep an eye on CBM for a Green Lantern poll towards the end of the week. Something tells me that won't be so one sided!

It was ok, but not the best in my opinion. Should have been strictly Magneto and Xavier.

LMAO at people saying GL is even the third best cbm movie of the year. It got worse reviews than Green Hornet. lmfao!!

Damn denial is a bitch.

The best X-Men film ever in my opinion, it was beyond epic. The acting was superb, the effect were great, awesome choice in characters, the story was great, I just wish they wouldn't have "killed" Darwin

It was fun and I enjoyed it immensely. I still find it funny that LEE has been really quiet since GL came out. He definitely had all his eggs in that basket.

I've seen it three times and I loved it more and more every time I saw it. Top three favorite characters: Magneto, Beast and Azazel.

Awesome movie!!!

First Class was a waste. The visuals were good. That's all it had going for it. The character development was horrible. Fassbender had the only good performance.

zemus@ LOL, nicely done! I haven't seen GL yet but from what I have heard all the problems with it are the same problems LEE is always complaining about. Kind of sad his hatred for pretty much everything.

Intruder@ It might help to think of this as a separate First Class universe. That is how i looked at it and i enjoyed the movie. The more you dwell the more pissed you will get. I mean seriously how many different continuities are there in the comics world? think about that.

It was very good and the best movie so far this summer. The story was very complex, the acting was fantastic especially Fassbender and McAvoy, and the action was superb.

BillBrasky - 6/21/2011, 11:30 AM
This film became one of my favorites. The McAvoy and Fassbender team-up in this was incredible. Great casting decision right there - it mirrored the Pitt and Clooney pairing which is, to me, always entertaining to watch. I think they handled Prof X and Magneto's start into the world of X-Men great and in a way that kept you on your toes. Well written, fun to watch, takes itself seriously and lacks the corn...well..except...

The only bad thing I can say about this movie, and it is bad, was the inclusion of Angel Salvadore aka Tempest. I felt they simply hired Lenny Kravitz's daughter and then looked for an X-Men character that she resembled. What a lame and insanely stupid character to add to this otherwise perfect film. The scene in the strip club became extremely awkward for me when she revealed her wings and started floating. It was hard not to laugh, just looked asinine. The only thing worse was having to sit through this character in action. There is absolutely nothing cool about ferry flight and acid loogie.

Why not add a final category: "Didn't see the movie because I utterly refuse to support Fox's interpretation of the Marvel U, in keeping with my original intentions, and with little regret."

I loved it. Very good as a movie. As a CBM, though, I certainly have my opinions on how it could be better.

I still think that as a CBM, Thor is winning 2011.

Apart from some under whelming performances from some of the cast i.e January Jones i thought the movie in a whole had a much better script and was more exciting than thor.

I dont know what the hype is about X-men first class.Sure Magneto was borderline amazing,it wouldve been a hundread times better with just him and Prof X.Without bastardizing what is the x men's history. If all the character werent out of sync and it had the true first class as background character i wouldve been fine with it.But Wdf As A Comic Loyalist how do you sit here and put this movie on a pedestal,if its acceptable in X-Men First Class What Makes You Think Some Arse Produer/Director/Writer Wont Do It Again And Make Your Favorite Characters Into Shell's Of Themself.I Dont Get It At All,As A Loyal Comic Reader How The Heck Do You Say Omg It Was Awesome,It Was A Cool Movie. But As A Comic Movie Its As Bad As The Worst Of All Time For Not Being True To The Storyline.I Cant And Wont Accept What They Want To Give The Audience Knowing These Are The Character I Know And Love,But Constucts Of Some Arse Who Has His/Her Own Vision

Say wot you will guys! The movie was great. Granted liberties were definitely taken! But then nowadays which book adaptation actually DOES go strictly with the content. Even Harry Potter has had things changed as well as LOTR. Not comparing XFC to either of these series btw.

And if th movie was just centered around Mags & X I dont think it wouldve been the dynamic, exciting CBM we all (well, most of us atleast) know & love today...That story is good for a medium like comics & books alone, movies need to have some bada boom in order to get people interested in the movie & ultimately the XMen franchise (comics, cartoons, etc) as a whole! The 1st XMen movie is wot pulled me into the comic book world & I'm sure XFC is doing precisely the same for thousands of other kids the world over today...

I have to agree with Intruder, the first X-Men movie should've had the first five (without Wolvie) and could've made a great story with Magneto's Brotherhood (Mystique, Sabertooth, Toad, Blob, aaaand.... Multiple Man :D) Sequels could add Wolvie, Storm, ect. and students to Xavier's school. Focus on other huge villians. Then prequels on Wolvie's past, Xavier's and Magneto's backstory huh..... Only in a perfect world :)

Simonson, because we are assuming that people that come to Comic Book MOVIE are movie fans as well as comic fans and want to see good movies regardless of how in keeping they are with the comic they are based on.

The film was amazing! Best X-Men film ever created!

Perfect amount of action mixed with drama and characterizations.

And well said @Ror- No matter how much of a divergence First Class took with the comics, it was still a GREAT CBM and as such deserves the respect it receives.

A good movie? Yeah sure but not great. I am not trying to be a downer. I had no expectations for this movie so it took me by surprise. I am happy that general audiences loved it and fans of the comic ended up impressed or somewhat satisfied. The whole movie was a horrible situation leading up to its release and it does not go without its faults. I don't know why the critics loved it so much. The movie was far from great. I am just wondering what people saw that I did not.
The plot and overall tone of the movie was different compared to what we are used to seeing in comic book films. It was refreshing. It flowed well and did not take itself too seriously. Little bits of history were sprinkled in. They touched upon some sensitive topics without getting too deep or going all Oliver Stone with it. The setting in which it took place was nice.
I could have done without a majority of the mutants. Everyone here agrees with that. I could see the kids from Twilight acting in this movie. Beast was silly looking, Mystiques dialogue was corny, Havok was not supposed to be there, Kevin Bacon was cool but never really a threat. Azazel was cool but not used enough. They didnt even explain anything about him or Riptide who looked like a chippendales dancer or something I would imagine Playgirl displaying on their cover. Emma Frost was not as bad ass as she is in the comics, what did she even stand to gain? The actress did fine but her dialogue was pretty bad. Her role in the movie was all most as pointless as Halle Berrys Storm was in the past films.
The dialogue was cliche but somehow made the film better and worse. The lack of complicated dialogue complimented the pacing and plot of the film. Some of it was a little silly and reflected the softer cartoon and comic versions of X Men. They touched upon all of the characters without making it feel like too much. It was too little at times but they played it safe. I was only focused of Charles and Erik which I guess was the point.
I agree with the people who say that it should have just been X and Magneto but in the end that is what the movie was. So now that I basically wrote an essay on what I liked and disliked about this movie can anyone who finds this movie to be "great" just fill me in on their opinion or take on this? The movie was a decent action/sci fi/comedy? A good or great X Men movie? I don't think so. A good movie it was but to call it great I think is a bit much. It worked and thats why I thought highly of it. They still F'ed with my X Men

So far this movie has only made $120M domestically, and I don’t think it has anything to do with the economy. Thor, Hangover 2, Pirates, & Fast Five all have solid returns this summer. So I’m just curious if people think that they will make another movie if you can’t even come close to matching the production budget with your domestic audience?

I loved it. I was one of them dudes who didn't have alot of faith in it. I'm not ashamed to admit I was wrong, 'cause I was. I enjoyed this more than the first 3. It wasn't perfect, but no movie is.

It's defnitely the best Marvel movie yet, and I was really impressed by it. But it's far below Nolan's Batman movies.
