Tony Award winner Jackman is hot off his record breaking run "Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway" which closed Sunday. The one man show raked in $2 million its final week bringing in a total of $14.6 million.
Jackman has signed on to play Houdini in the 2013-14 Broadway run written by Academy Award and six-time Emmy Award winner Aaron Sorkin (
"The West Wing," "The Social Network").
"I have been deeply fascinated by the life of Harry Houdini since I was young, and in many ways I've been preparing for this role my whole life. I am thrilled to be collaborating with this collection of artists who are all at the top of their game," Jackman said in a statement, obtained by the New York Times. Not much else has been revealed about the project.
Jackman, of course, has played a magician before in Christopher Nolan's
The Prestige.
I know what you're saying- "Thor, I know Jackman is a comic book man, but what's this about Houdini?" Well, Houdini has appeared in comics several times throughout the ages. He teamed up with Spawn even.
Overall, it speaks volumes about Jackman that he can switch from cutting and gutting with a *snikt* to dancing and singing on Broadway. Can Houdini escape the pre-show debacle that was
Spider-Man? (Couldn't resist) Sound off below.
