Hugh Jackman Would Have Joined The MCU As WOLVERINE Had Disney Acquired Fox A Little Sooner

Hugh Jackman recently dismissed the possibility of returning as Wolverine in the MCU, but the Aussie actor has now admitted that he would have agreed to do so had the Disney/Fox merger happened sooner!

When Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios regained the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four. The plan is to reboot the franchises for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but had the merger happened sooner, Kevin Feige keeping Hugh Jackman as Wolverine seems likely.

J.K. Simmons has reprised the role of J. Jonah Jameson in the MCU after his surprise appearance at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, so Jackman doing the same wouldn't have been too shocking!

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Jackman actually acknowledged that he would have been open to reprising the role of Wolverine in the MCU had Disney acquired Fox a few years earlier. "Totally," he told the site when they quizzed him about whether he would have considered jumping ship.

"Honestly, Marlow, if seven years ago that had happened I’d be like, 'Oh yeah!' but I knew it was the right time for me to leave the party—not just for me, but for the character."

Jackman expressed enthusiasm for some sort of MCU appearance for years, but it was never going to happen when Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg were in charge of the franchise. The hunky Aussie actor said goodbye to Wolverine in 2017's Logan, hence why he now doesn't want to reprise the role.

That means Kevin Feige will have to find someone else to wield the mutant's claws, and that's a casting decision which isn't going to be easy, even for the amazing Sarah Finn.

That's old news, Josh.

*inb4 "but it's not Josh!"*

Same difference, fam.

Hugh always wanted to fight Hulk for example.
And if you ask me, shit is always possible. :3

Even though a lot of people don’t like the x men movies and think they don’t age well it’s hugh and the rest of the cast that make me still go back to em after all these years

But still not alll of them

@manofillintent1 - agreed. The only reason I think Apocalypse is worth watching is jecause of Fassbender, but not for anyone else in the cast or anything at all really. Dark Phoenix should be skipped at all times, but rest are still worth watching because of the cast

I'm sure Feige would always be inclined to reboot, but I'm glad Jackman's Wolvie was off the board by the time the deal was done. That avoided any push to keep any of Fox's scraps onboard (since they've now shit the bed twice with the new cast), and allowed Jackman to go out on a high note.

It's still crazy to me that the only truly viable Fox property at the time of the acquisition was Deadpool of all things

Wouldn't want him to come back anyway, Logan was the perfect send off.

Shame he never got to wear the costume though.

P.S Jack O'Connell would be my pick to play him in the MCU.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - They should have kept The Wolverine's original ending and had him wear the mask fighting Sentinels in the future segments of Days of Future Past.

@DalekCraigWasson - That would've been cool but I don't think anything is topping that ending to Logan.

@LaserKing - Tbh I'm hoping the mcu can give us that perfect cross between both the blue/yellow AND the brown/gold suits.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah he's definitely my favorite for the role right now.

Although if I'm being honest Tom Hardy was pretty much perfect for the role if not for Venom.

@dragon316 - First of all could you PLEASE use commas in your sentences!? Almost got a migraine trying to read your comment lmao.

Second of all I think you're correct on saying that most straight realizations of comic book designs usually have some type of compromise when bringing a character to life, but I do think that it's possible with wolverine; there have already be designs that have been pretty good for live-action logan:
