JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Henry Cavill Talks Being Fan Cast As Characters Like Wolverine And James Bond

Henry Cavill looks set to have a busy few years ahead playing Superman, but the Black Adam star has now weighed in with his thoughts on fans casting him as characters like James Bond and Wolverine...

We were all under the belief that Henry Cavill was done playing Superman, so the news he will reprise the role in the new DCU following Black Adam has been welcomed by comic book fans. Now, the odds of him getting to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond are significantly lower, though we did get to see him play a spy in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., of course.

In fact, he'll get another opportunity in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming spy thriller, Argylle, and USA Today (via ActioNewz.com) recently asked the Enola Holmes 2 star if that project will be the closest he ever gets to playing 007.

"Who knows, I guess time will tell," Cavill responded with a laugh. "We got to have this slightly larger-than-life character in play, which we could really have fun with."

Asked what he thinks about his fans campaigning for him to play James Bond - and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Wolverine - Cavill said he enjoys seeing that, but it's not as easy as some of us might think.

Why? Well, he likes to give the characters he plays his all. That probably goes some way in explaining his decision to walk away from The Witcher after it became apparent he and producers weren't seeing eye to eye when it came to how Geralt of Rivia should be portrayed on screen.

"It is enormously flattering to read those articles that pop up about Bond all the time and who's the favorite. I enjoy that, of course. But it's all about how much time I have, and these roles need to be respected and a lot of work needs to be put into them. You can't just be jumping from iconic role to iconic role with no time to prep for them."

While more Superman is in Cavill's future, Bond does appear to be off the table, but who knows when it comes to Wolverine. For the time being, Marvel Studios is focusing on Hugh Jackman's return as Logan in 2024's Deadpool 3

Do you think Cavill would be a good fit for Bond or Wolverine? Let us know in the comments section.

@marvel72 - Cavill as Captain Britain would be a dream come true. I don’t even feel that strongly about the character himself, but Henry is practically already there.

I would like Henry Cavill to play Knull the King in Black in a symbiote saga.

StSteven - 11/12/2022, 11:00 PM
@SonOfAGif - I dunno. Based on how Knull is portrayed in the comics, Cavill might be a bit too beefy. Maybe someone like Gary Oldman, because God knows we’ve gotta get that dude in the MCU ASAP.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 11/12/2022, 11:34 PM
@StSteven - If you want Gary Oldman in the MCU say no more. Nightmare in "Doctor Strange in the worst Nightmare". Doctor Strange and Clea must stop an Incursion from opening a gateway into the Dark Dimension allowing Dormammu access to the Earth. But another gateway opened into the Nightmare dimension and it becomes a race against time to reach the interdimensional rift. Nightmare and Dormammu join forces against Doctor Strange, Clea, Wong, and Mordo in a battle that will determine the fate of every reality within the 616 universe.

@SonOfAGif - just take my money
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 11/13/2022, 3:37 AM
@killadeathray - And then it would be a betrayal towards the end when Mordo kills Wong and they discover the entire plan was for the Dark Dimension to consume the universe allowing the Nightmare Dimension to feast over the dreams of the surviving humans and Baron Mordo becoming the Sorcerer Supreme so they could lock Universe 616 out of every Multiverse.
StSteven
StSteven - 11/13/2022, 2:17 PM
@SonOfAGif - Oooo, yeah, Nightmare would be a good one too (and we'll probably see him in the MCU before Knull anyway). I'm just thinking any role where he can play a character similarly creepy as his Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (I just got that on 4K and DAMN he is the stuff of, well, Nightmares).

Your other comment about locking 616 out of every Multiverse does make me wonder how prominent the Multiverse will be after the events of the "Multiverse Saga" wrap up. Like, I'm sure that there will be things like the Dark Dimension, Mirror Dimension, etc. afterward (as they presumably were before the events of "Loki S1", but it does make me wonder if Marvel is going to end the MS with reestablishing the Sacred Timeline now that the Multiverse will have ostensibly served its purpose of introducing all the new characters/carry-overs from other Marvel universes and concepts that I think it was at least intended to do, or if they will allow the Multiverse to carry on after the MS.

SonOfAGif - 11/13/2022, 2:44 PM
@StSteven - And the best way to lock out the Multiverse entirely is with Doctor Strange. And using the Dark Dimension as a massive barrier of darkness could work. Maybe Strange could do one final bargain with Dormammu allowing him to be the Gate Guardian of universe 616 in exchange for not trapping him in the Nightmare Dimension. And Nightmare could remain in the void to mentally enslave any multiversal traveler from coming through.

I actually thought that he could've made a great Namor back in the day

@KWilly - Daniel Craig in his prime would have been a great Namor. But Tenoch killed it.

Now that he's back as superman, it's pretty safe to say he isn't gonna commit to another major superhero role for a while. Closest I can think of is a cameo in the mcu as hyperion.

AmazingFILMporg - 11/12/2022, 11:36 PM
@Origame -

Is he back though? How long is he gonna wait? James Gunn himself said recently that he is currently mapping out the future of DC and until then the next 2 years will be already shot DC films like Aquaman 2, blue beetle and the flash.

We won't see another superman solo for atleast 3 years😬

He came back to black Adam thinking it would be a hit but it flopped massively. At some point he has to let go and move on💁
Origame
Origame - 11/12/2022, 11:54 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - I mean, he left the Witcher to come back. Seems pretty committed.

It's hard to say what the plans will be, but considering the reaction he may be promised superman gets a priority. Like as the iron man of this new Era of the universe.

He did not leave Witcher for superman. That's just false. Reports say he wasn't happy in the role and the creative decisions made.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 11/13/2022, 3:44 AM
@Origame - One cameo in Black Adam. That's not a return.
Obviously Dwayne intended it to be his return as Superman, but The Rock is not one of the co-chairmen of DC.

We can guess that there will be a Superman film eventually, but we have no idea who's playing him.
Origame
Origame - 11/13/2022, 7:07 AM
@AmazingFILMporg - you really think he'd just leave without getting work first?
Origame

@ObserverIO - cavill literally said he's gonna be doing more.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 11/13/2022, 8:45 AM
@AmazingFILMporg - what do you mean "is he back though" ofcourse he is. He said it himself. 3 years is typically for a movie. You think they're going to be telling us news right now anyway? No, they're waiting for comic con or some kind of event. I'm sure there's plenty going on behind the scenes that have been happening for months that we don't know about.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 11/13/2022, 8:46 AM
@ObserverIO - Henry Cavill is going to play Superman. Try to keep up kid.
Origame
Origame - 11/13/2022, 10:39 AM
@IronMan616 - yeah. I don't know how you can deny it now. Only way around it is if they cancel it, but under discovery they have only canceled low budget dc movies that were tied to the originally planned reboot with the flash.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 11/13/2022, 4:22 PM
@Origame - @IronMan616 -
There is no "it". Cavill himself has said that he hasn't talked to Gunn yet.
No project has ever been announced.
Origame
Origame - 11/13/2022, 4:41 PM
@ObserverIO - so what if he hasn't met with Gunn yet and movies haven't been announced. He was in black Adam. From a bts situation, that means he's gone through the process of being paid and given a contract. Same with Spiderman in civil war. Tom was cast to be in civil war as basically a cameo but they signed him in to a multi picture contract, despite not announcing those movies. Same thing here. It's standard practice.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 11/13/2022, 6:51 PM
@Origame - Standard practice for people with a plan, but Cavill's appearance preceded the appointing of Gunn and Safran. Why would they sign anyone to a Superman film before DC Studios even exists, knowing that it soon will.

That's like hiring a chef and then cooking dinner 10 minutes before he shows up.
Origame
Origame - 11/13/2022, 9:12 PM
@ObserverIO - they do have a plan. It's hire a Kevin feige type to reorganize the existing dc universe. They hired Gunn because he's already shown an ability to work in a new direction with the existing continuity. Cavill even said he looks forward to talking to Gunn. Does that sound like him not continuing was made a possibility to him?

And that analogy is terrible. This is more like already knowing you want italian before hiring the chef. That's more than reasonable.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 11/14/2022, 4:36 AM
@Origame - The universe is broken.

You might be right, though. James Gunn might continue with the Snyderverse. Like you said, they gave him the option to reboot before with Suicide Squad and he chose not to.

Henry Cavill might come back for a Superman.

Neither of these things are certainties. And we can't take Cavill's sudden change of heart as confirmation. All we know for certain is he wants to be Superman again. He wants that job, that's literally all we know.

It could be a new universe, it could be another misguided attempt at saving the old one. It could be Henry back as Supes, it could not.

Like the old Chinese proverb, "We'll see".
