Taron Egerton has been a fan-favorite choice to take over the role of Wolverine from Hugh Jackman for a while now, and even though the Kingsman star previously denied rumors that he was being lined up to play the iconic mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems there have been some developments since the last time he addressed the possibility!
While speaking to The New York Times about his new Apple TV+ drama series Black Bird, Egerton was once again asked about the chances of him donning Logan's signature claws and mutton-chops, and this time he revealed that he has met with Marvel Studios execs, including Kevin Feige, about potentially signing on to play the character.
"I don't think it would be wrong to say that," the Welsh actor responded when asked if he'd had any official discussions about taking on the part. "I'd be excited but I'd be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I'd wonder if it'd be very difficult for someone else to do it."
"Hopefully if it does come around, they'll give me a shot," he added.
It sounds like Egerton may have reached out to Feige himself to see where things are at with the casting process. We know Marvel Studios is planning some kind of X-Men reboot, but we haven't had any solid updates since Disney's acquisition of Fox back in 2019. A rumor did the rounds that a project titled "The Mutants" was in development last year, but the report appeared to be debunked by the trades shortly after.
Most would tend to agree that Egerton would be a solid choice to play Wolverine if Feige does decide to cast a younger actor as the Ol' Canucklehead, but we'll just have to wait and see if anything comes of this meeting.
