X-MEN Reboot THE MUTANTS Reportedly In Development At Marvel Studios

We've been waiting a long time for some kind of update on Marvel Studios' plans for the X-Men, and a new report indicates that Kevin Feige is heading up a new feature titled The Mutants...

Fans have been curious about Marvel Studios' plans for the X-Men ever since Disney acquired the rights to the characters via the takeover of 20th Century Fox's assets back in 2019, and now we finally have some idea of what Kevin Feige and co. have in store for the uncanny heroes.

According to The Illuminerdi, Marvel is moving forward on a new feature titled The Mutants which will finally introduce the X-Men to the MCU. Details are few and far between, but Feige is said to be heading up the project as producer.

No word on any potential writers or directors, but we know Avengers: Endgame filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo are huge X-Men fans and have said on a few different occasions that they'd love to take a crack at the team if the opportunity should arise. Recently, the brothers revealed that are working on a new superhero project that they're very excited about.

Is there any chance? Pure speculation, of course, but you never know!

This is obviously a major story, and while the source has been spot on with their scoops on a regular basis, it's best not to get too excited until we hear from the trades as these things tend to be subject to change - especially in the earlier stages of development.

In the meantime, let us know what you make of this news in the comments section, and stay turned for updates.

Not THOSE mutants

@manofillintent1 - I wonder if Marvel is going to pull an Avengers style saga for the X-Men making solo films like Storm, Weapon X, Rogue, and then bring them all together for the grand ensemble film "Marvel's X-Men"

@SonOfAGif - if they went that route I'd hope it'd be shows and movies rather than all movies.

@MyCoolYoung - I wouldn't mind shows. Would make the Disney+ price hike mean something instead of the price hike for shows we already knew were coming and agreed to pay our original prices for.

@MyCoolYoung - I could very much see a Harry Potter style show revolving around Xavier’s school.

@thewanderer - that'd be dope. Definitely give them a way to show a different side of things

@SonOfAGif - definitely and give them a way to kind of speed up that inevitable ensemble film. Xmen, as is now, not coming to 2024 probably 2025 then a bunch of origins would go into 2028-2029

@MyCoolYoung - i agree, maybe shows for a couple of pairs here and there... scott and jean, kitty and wolverine, then a team up movie or bringing them into another franchise movie... they deserve the long narrative of a Disney + show.

@SonOfAGif - Ive been saying something to this effect for years. I'm hoping they keep the core original team for the first movie but then also have a Weapon X show then cross them over in the second movie. One of the big issues with even the early films in the Fox series is Wolverine is such a rich character that he takes over the team dynamic and plotlines. I think you need to see Scott becoming a leader before introducing Logan otherwise he just gets pushed to the back, and without his own series to explore his massive history the X-men movies have to basically be 50% wolverine movies to do anything with him as a character

@Ha1frican - Wolverine would thrive as a Disney+ show with him departing the team to do his own thing and his show would explore his adventures. They could even introduce some villains in the show to save time from explaining in the films such as Omega Red. I would even set up Mr. Sinister as a background villain and then have Logan return to the X-Men with the intel so they can take him down.

@thewanderer - how about a Forge TV show styled after Macguyver but on engineering steroids. He'd look up to Stark all the while doing amazing things to push the tech forward in the 616.

@SonOfAGif - @SonOfAGif - I actually outlined and began to write that exact thing when I was first getting into screenwriting as a hobby I essentially had it as

-The Uncanny X-men: The story of the initial teams graduation as the first of the new wave of mutants with Charles Xavier being captured by a black ops unit that were the precursor to the sentinels stoking fear and hate of mutants as the new wave of terrorism forcing Scott to step up as the leader of the original team in Charles’ a sense to get him back
-Weapon X: An overview of Logan’s history memento style flipping back and forth between his life as James Howlett trying to find a way to die by going to the most dangerous places (Both World Wars, Vietnam, and eventually the weapon X program during the Cold War) after his awful childhood and early life, paralleled with Logan’s search for a place in the world ending with both his his transformation into Logan in the past and his confrontation with the Hulk pre-Avengers leading him to come to America
-Uncanny X-men 2: Logan, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Storm join the team as the new wave of Mutants becomes increasingly prevalent stoke on by the emergence of the Brotherhood radicalizing young mutants and making the race war between then and the government even worse leading to the end where mutant registration is imposed as Rogue and Gambit defect to the X-men after Magneto’s defeat
-Weapon X Part 2: Further expands on Logan’s time in Japan as Dakken, Lady Deathstrike, and X-23 invade the X-mansion and force Logan to follow after them as Dakken ruins his image by staging killings as Wolverine. Logan and Kitty team up to take them down leading to the destruction of the X-mansion similar to how Dakken blew it up in the comics
-Uncanny X-men 3: After the X-mansions destruction leaves the team scattered, the government enacts the Mutant Registration act and sends the Avengers in to try and round up the X-men and other mutants still at large
-Weapon X Part 3: Having been reclaimed as a Canadian military asset after incarceration by the United States Logan is sent back to Russia to deal with Omega Red and Silver Samurai alongside Black Widow and Deadpool in a Suicide Squad style black ops mission

I actually got through first drafts of Uncanny X-men and Weapon X Part 1 and had the rest all outlined before I got sidetracked lol

@SonOfAGif - Good question. I don't know if you'd want to do it for all of them. Maybe some. Wolverine yes, but after that I have no idea. Marvel has a way of going in a direction you wouldn't expect (see GOTG) so it's too early to tell.
