X-Men: Every Confirmed And Rumored Cast Member For Marvel Studios' Long-Awaited Reboot

As Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot begins to take shape, we're taking a look at every actor who has officially joined the cast, and the ones who are still just rumored...

Marvel Studios' elusive X-Men reboot is finally coming together, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier set to helm, and three (possibly four) actors now confirmed to have joined the cast.

Marvel is believed to have cast a wide net to assemble this next generation of mutant heroes, and is now "scrambling" to finalize the ensemble ahead of D23 next weekend.

We are expecting a full cast announcement during the event, but until then, rumors continue to swirl.

Below, you'll find a breakdown of every confirmed and rumored cast member. We've left out a few of the more hard-to-believe or obviously fake names that have surfaced, instead focusing on the actors who could realistically still be in contention for the remaining roles.

Confirmed: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey

Image

We heard that Sink might be on Marvel's radar to play Jean a while before she joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (hat tip to Jeff Sneider), but most of us assumed that a wire got crossed along the way, and she must be playing a new take on Mary Jane Watson, Mayday Parker, or some other character more closely associated with the wall-crawler.

Well, the cat is well and truly out of the bag at this stage, and the Stranger Things alum will return as the powerful telepath, first for Avengers: Secret Wars, and then the X-Men reboot. Jean is believed to be the co-lead along with Cyclops, but this has not been confirmed.

Confirmed: Kit Connor as Cyclops

The most recent X-Men casting news revealed that Heartstopper star Kit Connor will play Scott Summers.

Connor had not previously been rumored, and is said to have landed the role when "a small group of actors tested after the Fourth of July holiday and after a lot of back and forth, Marvel landed on Connor as the choice to play Summers."

Apparently, both Drew Starkey and Cooper Hoffman were early contenders, but the runner-up just behind Connor was actually Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Sex Education).

Confirmed: Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

After being fan-cast as the character for years, Aussie Scream Queen Samara Weaving is set to portray Emma Frost in the X-Men reboot.

Superhero casting announcements don't always go over very well with comic book fans, but this news was met with almost universal approval.

Frost could be introduced as either a hero or a villain. While we don't expect Weaving's take on the character to be a member of the team (initially, at least), it seems highly unlikely that she'll be the film's primary antagonist.

Rumored: Adam Driver as ???

A lot of scoopers are confident that Adam Driver has actually been cast in the movie, but the announcement is being saved for D23.

We'll obviously have to wait and see on that front, but there seems to be just as much uncertainty surrounding the character he's attached to play.

We initially heard Magneto, then Mr. Sinister, and more recently, William Stryker. This would seem to indicate that the Star Wars sequel trilogy star will play a villain, but we have a feeling his character - assuming he has been cast, that is - may come as a surprise.

Rumored: Charles Melton as Beast

Another casting many believe to be a sure thing, pending an official announcement, is Charles Melton as Hank McCoy, aka Beast.

Melton's breakout role was Reggie Mantle in the CW's Riverdale, and his star has been on the rise following acclaimed performances in Beef Season 2 and 2023's May December. The actor, who is of Korean-American descent, is now 35, but can still get away with playing significantly younger.

Rumored: Cailee Spaeny as Rogue

This may have become the least likely rumor on the list, but the latest actress said to be in line to play Rogue is Melton's Beef Season 2 castmate and Alien: Romulus star Cailee Spaeny.

It sounds like Spaeny may have campaigned for a role in the movie, but we're still not sure Rogue will even make her debut in this first film. Odessa A'zion has also been mentioned in connection with this character.

Rumored: Inde Navarrette as ???

Another long shot, even though Navarrette has confirmed that she took a meeting with Schreier, and name-dropped Mystique as the character she'd be most interested in playing.

We'd say Navarrette could have her pick of roles after the massive success of Obsession, but that doesn't mean there was a part for her in this movie (like Rogue, we're not certain Raven Darkholme will even appear).

Rumored: ??? As Charles Xavier

This one is really more of a bonus mention, since we have heard that all previously rumored names - including Patrick Wilson, Bill Skarsgård, and Tom Pelphrey - either dropped out of the running or were never in it to begin with.

The most recent rumor claimed that Professor X has been cast, however, and there are whispers that the actor has already played a Marvel character.

They want that Navarrete girl who only makes faces, and they bring her on because they inflated her popularity. The other actresses are just average, one worse than the other. Margaret Qualley is a better actress than all of them except for Samara Weaving, who is also good.

this is not a rumor

So we already have Marvel Girl, Cyclops and Beast? Now we only need Angel and Iceman, and the OG team is complete.

@bkmeijer1 - I feel like people just say they want the OG team based on principle... Not because they actually like the original team or those stories. Does anyone read the original run and actually want that? I mean... Stop lying to yourselves. Angel? Really? You think Angel is interesting? Not interesting until he became Archangel. And Beast before he was blue & furry? Yeah, no.

I'm fine without another X-Men reboot and I don't see the point unless they fully reboot because they'd never interact with a lot of the characters people wanted them in the MCU to interact with. How they wrote Jean Grey was horrific. Having Spider-man be the cause for the mutant inhibitor was idiotic and means he's probably going to be dragged into their conflicts. Avengers: Doomsday is set to turn them into evil multiversal genociders killing other realities to protect themselves. Just feels like the writers don't understand what a hero should be let alone what the X-Men should be.

Seen all the story-lines I wanted to see adapted, while some could be adapted better, I'm not going to get myself invested in this new version in the hope they'll eventually adapt them with any level of quality when they are still failing to write good stories after nearing six years of failures.

I think it's stupid bringing back the Fox-Verse characters repeatedly and then having a reboot potentially only a few months or a year or so later. I expect they'll run into backlash with however they eventually choose to handle Magneto which is why they are Mister Sinister instead.

@Scarilian - THANK YOU. They could not have botched Jean Grey any harder. It was insane watching that film hearing her be labeled Jean [frick]ing Grey like no one at Marvel had ever read any of the early X Men runs. I also in no way see Sadie Sink as Jean. She's wholly miscast IMO and her being a red head is irrelevant. It's obvious they are making a gen z wet dream for MCU Xmen. Schreier is a nothing special director and he's casting based upon popularity with young audiences rather than casting to bring the comics to life. Kit Conner will be fine as Scott, but he was cast because he's currently in a popular gay teen Netflix series.

My gut feeling is we look back at films like First Class with McAvoy/Fassbender and X2, Days of Future Past and say we didn't realize how good we had it despite the Singer-isms

@Scarilian - you sound like all of the “fans” who moaned and cried about how Spider-Man wasn’t Spider-Man in Spider-Man Homecoming, and he was Iron Man Jr when if you had just given them a little time, you would’ve seen they were spending an entire trilogy getting him to that point really diving into the MCU version of the character giving us something different than what had come in the two previous film iterations. Why not just reserve judgment for a little while? Let’s see what Marvel can do with the X-Men when they get to build it from the ground up. I know it’s a crazy thought. I mean, it makes much more sense to just go ahead and completely make up our minds by only seeing the first introduction of one character of the team right?! Even if that intro to the character is different than the way it’s been done before. But then, if they gave you the same thing as before you would say they’re just doing the same thing, they’re not giving us anything new! There is no making some of you happy. Personally, I love the take on Jean Gray. I can’t wait to see where they go with it.

@ninerstreet -
"I love the take on Jean Gray"

WHY? You did a massive post and nothing in that post explains why you feel that way.

"Why not just reserve judgment for a little while?"

It has been a consistent trail of broken morality and inability to write for over a decade with the most notable impacts being the last 6 years. Not only is the writing broken but the people creating these projects have no understanding of humanity or morals so we don't see that reflected in the work they create. It's a very twisted and warped version of reality on display and unfortunately that is reflecting onto this reality.

"really diving into the MCU version of the character"

The flaws in his characterization become consistent over time creating an impression of his character that does not embody how Spider-man should be:

• Overtly reliant on AI and Technology (Homecoming, FFH, NWH, BND - AI companion and suit)
• Fails to allocate responsible for his own or others actions (Homecoming, FFH, NWH, BND)
• Blind trust of authority (FFH - Shield, BND - DodC)
• Blind trust of authority figures (Civil War - Tony, FFH - Mysterio, BND - Metzger, Wolfe)
• Has no understanding of the risks of technology (Homecoming - Instant Kill, FFH - Drones, BND - Inhibitor)
• Is willing to give dangerous technology away to villains (FFH - Edith, NWH - Arc Reactor, BND - Inhibitor)
• Is prone to violence (NWH - Attempts to kill Green Goblin, BND - Strangles MJ, Tries to kill Scorpion, Destroys Police vehicle and nearly kills a cop)

The most recent act of the movies is similar to the contrast between the Star Wars sequel trilogy where between each film the ideas flipped because of different minds behind the scenes. We go from Peter making the heroic sacrifice in NWH to him trying to undo that sacrifice in BND, the same mistake that Andrew Garfield's Spider-man made with Gwen Stacy, only he faces no consequences for this. MJ may say she doesn't love him, but the chemistry is there and she hates her boyfriend so they'll get back together. It's just a reset to where we were about midway through FFH.

Yeah, it's frankly insane how lacking in morals these movies are getting nowadays, which unfortunately is going to end up having an impact on the generations that are growing up and looking to these movies as a source of escapism or inspiration from the decaying nature of this reality.

MCU is probably the most notable because we have more examples, but I'm aware James Gunn's Superman did similar where 'Superman doesn't kill'... he just orchestrates and allows others to do it for him without stopping them such as Hawkgirl.

I grow concerned as to what message it'll leave the audience with when Spider-man, a relatable character that people are meant to look up to, doesn't condemn Jean despite all she has done. For me it has severed my attachment with this Spider-man, which was already weakening as his consistent character traits are all negative.

Fox X-Men has its moments, each has scenes that I revisit from time to time and I've re-watched a few of them lately and enjoy several. I think they are realistically the only time we'll ever have certain arcs adapted because the MCU will be wanting to do it's own thing.

I think I'm okay with just the stuff from the past nowadays, I don't think we'll see improvements any time soon with Superhero media. I know Avengers: Doomsday is an absolute disaster.
