In the vid Lawrence takes us through the painstaking process of being made up to become Mystique. She also talks about what it was like to go through this and how it felt to be acting for hours at a time once she was in full prosthetics. And we see various shot of this happening as well as concept designs etc. Yes, you do see her semi naked at some points.

why did the x-men films make mystique so unattractive? take a look at her in the comics she maybe blue but she's sexy with it.

blue coloured skin & clothing would of been fine she doesn't have to walk around naked.

@marvel72 I can't agree :/ if she was just all blue it would've looked completely fake and so cheesy,

you can't tell me seeing this on screen would make a better impact:



they added more texture to her skin and gave her a more reptile effect which I think looked incredible, since she is an assassin, she's a stealthy, proficient fighter just like a snake or lizard, it suits. The newer look looks way more menacing and beautiful

Yeah who says she wasn't attractive in the movies! Yummy. Anyway the scales, rough skin whatever you wanna call it meant they could give her character a little more depth and establish a reason for her to want to fit in more with humanity at first. An improvement on the comics?

using a cosplay photo isn't really doing the character justice,that big studio working on it could come up with.

we'll just have to disagree because the scales ruined the look for me,granted she was lovely when she didn't look like a smurf with chicken pox.

imo the scale look improved on her comic design a plain blue look is just cinematicly unappealing and boring

@P862010 Completely agree! Mystique's look in the comics would not have translated well on screen, she would've looked like an oversized smurf instead of a villainous assassin.

@cherrybomb I agree since the VFX when they started this series were limited compared to what we have now, and it'd make no sense to just change her look in the films. But, with Mo-Cap and stuff now, I bet they could make her look good, just use a similar effect to creating the Na'vi from Avatar, means more comfort for the actress, less time in prosthetics, but then on the flip side it'd probably cost tonnes more.
But that wouldn't happen at least until a reboot, which I hope doesnt happen any time soon!
And yeah, if they did do that, dont use a white costume, she'd look like a smurf reject.

Oh yeah and the end still perplexes me [Spoiler alert if you havent watched the film, although really? Who hasnt seen it?]
I dont understand how she can pick the moment Charles, who has been like a brother to her since she was like 6, is hit in the spine and crippled by a bullet shot by his love interest and deflected at him by his best friend... why did she pick that moment to say "Oh, by the way, sorry you've now lost the ability to use your legs, but I'm leaving to go with Magneto because actually, I dont agree with anything you've taught me over the past 20 years... so yeah, have a nice life... hope the wheelchair has X shaped wheels..."

And even weirder, Charles is just like "Oh yeah, I've just been crippled by two people who were very important to me, but sure, go ahead, betray me and become life long enemies, I'm totally cool with that!"

yeahh.... apart from that though, [frick]ing amazing film!

@Acira Well Avatar worked well because it was set on an alien planet .. if we had just blue people walking along New York or something it'd look a little cheesy. She's a mutant so she should look a little 'mutated' I think, :/ just my opinion anyway XD the scales and lizard-style look suits her snakey personality and abilities,

infact, they made her look more like a chameleon .. since chameleons shapeshift kinda. so it's kinda clever really.

@Tweenkies totally :D she'd be perfect for Cassie, she'd give Cassie a humorous but girl-next-door type feel that is much needed for on-screen :D

@ACira well, to answer the First Class thing, Mystique chose Magneto since he kinda set her 'free' - Magneto was the one who pushed Raven to be 'mutant and proud' and be who she really is, whereas Charles just wanted to fit in and take things slowly, Charles held Mystique down, whereas Erik accessed her full potential and who she is.

They separated amicably, some producer or something has said before that "even though they are enemies, Charles and Erik still have great respect for one another" or something like that.
