X-Men: First Class Writers Want To Tackle The Fantastic Four Reboot

Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz who worked on both First Class and Thor revealed their desire to work on a Fantastic Four reboot at MCM Expo London Comic Con..

Last we heard about Fox's (apparently) in the works reboot of Fantastic Four was that it had a script in the works, and the rumored title was Fantastic Four: Reborn. We haven't heard anything since aside from a load of made up nonsense about Bruce Willis voicing The Thing etc.

Well, far from being anything official, we at least have an interested party in getting Marvel's first family back up on the big screen. First Class screen writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz revealed their interest when asked which Marvel character they would like to tackle next at the MCM Expo..

"We would absolutely love to reboot the Fantastic Four. There is a franchise that's crying out for it. The Fantastic Four are adventurers, not superheroes, and we have not seen that so far.

"It should all be about venturing into the unknown, space, the Negative Zone, the Microverse. They are explorers. It should be Star Wars meets superheroes."

The duo also expressed interest in having a go at a Wonder Woman adap..

"That haven't been done yet? I'd say poor Wonder Woman. It never seems to go right for her.

"She is this iconic character but the general public have this image of her twirling around and flying an invisible plane.

"But she gutted [archvillain] Maxwell Lord like a fish [in the comic book]. I like the George Perez stories. I would love to see a more kick-ass version of her [in live-action adaptations]."

Actually she twisted Lord's head around..but whatever! What do you guys think? Would these guys write a good FF story for the big screen? Would you even want to see another take on it now that things have changed(Torch dead, Spidey takes his place) so much in the comics? And if so, who do you think should play them?

Note: The full transcript of the Expo conference was posted Here but many of us(myself included) seemed to miss out on the important details.

Well Thor was cool not great. I read First Class was the best reviewed movie of the year, so there's potential there.

thor was very good but not great.

x-men first class was good but not great.(watched first class twice on download, repeat veiwing it lost some of its appeal not as good as the first time i watched.)

i was hoping that fox would be too busy making sequel to first class, rebooting daredevil & trying to get deadpool off the ground to worry about the fantastic four.

then marvel took the rights from under their noses.

but sadly this might not happen.

cant be worse than the last two films. They need to get Doom right this time. Julian McGahon or whatever his name was, was a terrible choice for that role. An actor so wooden he could be used as a prop in Fangorn Forest. Dont get me started on the cloud of shit as Galactus!

Just give FF back to Marvel Studios and they deal with making a better movie.

I think this whole adventuring focus might be helpful to making this movie unique.

I'd rather have a writer or writers who can actually write a good woman's part for Sue Storm. The writing for the women's parts in "X-Men First Class" was subpar.

The Fantastic Four have always put being explorers and scientists first, and then superheroes second. Sounds like they might do them justice.

Fox should just give up the rights. They already made TWO mediocre FF movies, plus they have The Wolverine, Deadpool, Daredevil reboot, sequels to X-Men First Class, and maybe X4 in development, so they're too busy to ruin F4 again.

Clive Owen for Reed Richards!
Yvonne Strahovski for Susan Richards!
Thomas Dekker as Human Torch.
Full CGI "The Thing".

I thought the FF movies were awful, except for a few bright sparks in the second one..and I guess Evans and Chiklis were good as Torch and Thing. But, I really don't see how any studio or director could do much better with those characters!

Of any of the characters in other Studios hands, Fantastic 4 is the one that *NEEDS* to return to Marvel!

They have Galactus, Silver Surfer and there own role in Marvel is just So Important!

After seeing Thor, I've lost all faith in Marvel Studios.

After seeing X Men: First Class, every ounce of faith I had in Marvel Studios now belongs to Fox.

I would love for these guys to write an FF reboot.

Although I disagree with the Star Wars comparison.

@ RorMachine

I take the time to go to the MCM Expo and sit through the Q&A and type up the article and post it on here and you "seemed to miss out on the important details"? WTF?

Anyway, while listening to Miller and Stentz at the MCM Expo it was clear they are comic books geeks first and script writers second as they have an enormous enthusiasm for comic book characters. So l'm pretty sure they would do a good job with the FF or Wonder Woman if given the opportunity.

Stentz also expressed an interest in working on The Suicide Squad or Dr Fate.

They can make it as accurate to the comic as possible, won't change the fact that the concept was always stupid. A superhero family who bathe in the spotlight of the general public snd the media. Worse still, all their enemies know their identities and home address so how the hell are they still alive? Films based on stupidity will always be an Epic Fail.

They need to make it adult-themed like how First Class was. Not saying that First Class was a masterpiece, but Fox actually made good sense with it. They need to stop making silly child-based stories. If they grounded it more in terms of emotion and reality, with the added element of a lot of supernatural themes, it could work very well. Minor cuersing is nothing, but the tone is almost everything.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 6/9/2011, 7:07 AM

@Ceejay To be honest, Superhero's who keep their identities hidden are just so unrealistic. You think out of all the superheroes, you'd have one team who milk the spotlight .. which is what I like, much more realistic.

So they can F up fantastic 4 too. Give it back to Marvel and quit messing these movies up. Only good thing I hear about X-men First Class is Magneto.

Who will they use for the team? If it's the writers of X-Men: Fist A$$, it probably won't be the actual Fantastic Four! Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Hulk and Wolverine?

I'm all for this. Fantastic Four was f*ckin corny. Where is it written that CBM's have to be filled with cheese? What age group do they really want to cater to? I would like to see Galactus on screen, it would be great to see a character that massive and it would present a worthy adversary. Pull out all the stops for the reboot..

If it must be rebooted, give us a truly fantastic movie 4 us all to enjoy.

I definitely want a full reboot. I actually didn't mind the cast with the exception of Alba. They just didn't have any chance with those scripts. Down with Fox for screwing up Galactus and Surfer.

I've never really been a FF4 fan but with the writers of First Class behind it, i'll give it a shot.

They shouldn't start over, everybody knows their origins, I think they should move on and start another adventure and introduce maybe the inhumans or the skrull, Fantastic Four 3 instead of Fantastic Four 1.2
