After an incredible performance in Obsession, Inde Navarrette has landed the biggest role of her career as Rogue in the upcoming X-Men reboot. There's a huge amount of excitement to see what she does as the hero, including what her take on Anna Marie's Southern accent will be.
During a recent interview, Navarrette was asked what it sounds like and quickly reeled off an iconic Rogue "Sugah." She made sure to clarify that it was just her version, and that she'll be working with Marvel Studios to make sure it's as good as possible.
It's hard to shake the feeling that Navarrette will be anything other than a scene-stealer in X-Men, and the actress is clearly excited about the role.
After previously teasing her interest in Mystique, Navarrette was recently asked if that character was one she ever discussed with Marvel Studios. It turns out Rogue was already in the cards at that point, meaning the shapeshifter was never on the table.
"The way that that character is, it's so complicated, and it's so nuanced when you have the originality of the story," Navarrette told Collider. "Her and Rogue are also very similar, you know what I mean, if you've read the comics. So I was not lying. I was dropping hints, and I was like, 'If anybody's picking up what I'm putting down?', but nobody did."
Rogue first appeared in Avengers Annual #10 in 1981. Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Michael Golden, she was raised by Mystique and recruited into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. She initially fought the X-Men as an antagonist before seeking Professor X’s help.
The hero's mutant ability allows her to absorb memories, life force and powers through physical contact. Permanently absorbing Carol Danvers' abilities gave her superhuman strength, flight and near-invulnerability, making her one of the X-Men's most powerful members.
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028.
