X-MEN '97 Story Details Reveal More About Wolverine, Storm, And Magneto's Battle With Mister Sinister

A brief new synopsis for Marvel Studios' X-Men: The Animated Series revival has offered a better idea of what to expect when Wolverine, Storm, and Magneto find themselves battling the evil Mister Sinister.

X-Men: The Animated Series debuted in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit with comic book fans at the time and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates to this day.

Marvel Studios looks set to revisit the franchise in Disney+'s upcoming X-Men '97, with most of the original cast returning to pick up where that series left off. Needless to say, excitement for this one is rapidly building but with some MCU TV shows reportedly being pushed into 2024, there have been concerns this revival might be among them.

All we know right now is that it's listed as "Coming Soon" on Disney+, so it hopefully won't be too long before we get an official update.

In the meantime, the @XMenUpdate Twitter account (via Toonado.com) has shared a synopsis for X-Men '97 which they say was revealed during the recent "X-Men: 60 Uncanny Years Live Virtual Event."

That reads, "Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all."

This lines up with what was revealed during last year's San Diego Comic-Con, with Magneto attempting to head down a heroic route by working with the X-Men rather than against them. Wolverine and Storm serving as the team's leaders should be fun, while Mister Sinister stepping into the spotlight is definitely exciting (and long overdue).

As for Professor X, we last saw him heading into space with Lilandra, though it's believed he'll be missing when the X-Men: The Animated Series follow-up begins.

Keep checking Toonado.com for the latest X-Men '97 updates as we have them.

I'm hoping we get some of the mid to late 90s and 00s story arcs. Age of Apocalypse, Onslaught, House of M, Messiah complex, Second Coming and I hope the final season tackles HoXPoX.

Please please don't make Wolverine a leader. I want to see the same character I loved in the 90s. That guy was not a leader. Don't make the same mistakes that modern stories keep making.

Where is Scott? Jean? I think in this canon Beast is probably a good fit too. Just not Logan.

@marvel72 - this is probably the bone we are thrown before they make the live action version unrecognizable.

Yeah why are they making Wolverine the leader?

@abd00bie - yeah once again Cyclops and the others take the back seat to Wolverine for the umpteenth time. I hope that’s not going to be the staple for the show. If it, is hard pass…

Nice, Sinister is a great villain. And if I remember correctly, Apocalypse is trapped at the end of time, and could come back with a simple plot device.
