X-MEN '97 Views Reach 4 Million After 5 Days On Disney+; Episode 3 "Fire Made Flesh" Arrives Tomorrow

So far, X-Men '97 has been a big hit for Disney+, with the recent two-episode premiere reaching 4 million views after just 5 days on the streaming service...

Disney+ has announced that Marvel Studios' animated revival series, X-Men ’97, hit four million views in its first five days on the streaming service.

This makes the X-Men relaunch the streamer’s most-watched Season 1 premiere for a full-length animated series since Marvel Studios' What If…? debuted in 2021, putting it ahead of the likes of Iwájú and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (animated shorts, such as Star Wars: Visions, I Am Groot and Zootopia+ are excluded from this count).

Even the trailer for X-Men ’97 made quite an impact, with views for all five seasons of the original 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series skyrocketing by 522% since the first look at the new show launched back in February.

Critics, who got to see the first three episodes, have been raving about the show, which had been sitting at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes since the review embargo lifted last week, and only just dropped to 98%.

Episode 3, "Fire Made Flesh," hits Disney+ tomorrow, and after the conclusion of last week's instalment, it's hardly a spoiler to note that the story will shift focus to the mysterious Jean Grey doppelgänger who arrived at the mansion in the closing moments (yes, it's who you think it is).

The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.

Beau DeMayo, who was recently fired, serves as head writer of X-Men ’97, while episodes are directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura. Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and DeMayo executive produce.

The titles for all 10 episodes were recently revealed.

While the titles don't appear to give too much away at first glance, some of them definitely offer hints at what the episodes in question could focus on, and those familiar with the X-Men's comic book history are sure to pick up on a few things.

For that reason, potential spoilers follow.

E1: To Me, My X-Men

E2: Mutant Liberation Begins

E3: Fire Made Flesh

E4: Motendo

E5: Remember It

E6: Bright Eyes

E7: Shine With Strength Reborn

E8: Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1

E9: Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2

E10: Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3

@AmazingFILMporg -
You've seen two episodes. Critics have seen three.

I'm not sure why you have such faith in a show made by a creator who was fired just before the project released.

@Scarilian - what enjoyment do you get bro coming here every single day to rag on something people enjoy

Let people enjoy things

@Vigor - He's not ragging on someone else's enjoyment, he's advises not to get his hopes up and going by Disney Marvel's track record, there's nothing wrong with being cautious. Everyone was cautious when house of Dragon started because of game of thrones. Even after the first couple of episodes there was still that fear that it would go to shit again up until it got towards the end of the season, that's when they earned the good will back.

@HashTagSwagg - House of the Dragon is a good comparison. I liked it from episode 1, but I never said it was a great show until the season finished. Just couldn’t trust them.

Just like with X-Men 97. Enjoyed the first two episodes a lot. I’ll praise it as a great show if they maintain the quality.

@HashTagSwagg - I don't want to hear that. He rags on every article. And he isn't cautioning anyone. He mentions the guy getting fired (Which occurred after the show was finished). He specifically looks for anything to back his distaste of Disney.

A woman on the set could miss her period and he'd say that's a reason to not get excited for a show.
Don't act like you're new here lol

I'm not ragging on it. It is perfectly acceptable to advise caution over a new show by Disney after the last three years.

Hyping over individual episodes and looking forward to the next? I can understand that.

Praising the entire show and treating it as "Marvel learning from mistakes" or "Marvel Studios is back" after two episodes of an eight episode series by a fired/erased creator is extremely premature and has a high change to backfire if the quality of later episodes declines.

There's no reason to have such blind faith in Disney after two episodes of a show where the first three are designed to be the best foot forward for critics/audiences. Companies should need to earn brand loyalty, but this is just delusional optimism by people deprived of quality material for a while. It's more akin to an abusive relationship where they immediately think Disney have changed because they got two episodes they liked.

We don't have an official reasoning for the firing. It happened publicly before the show was released which is not a good look and will naturally shroud a series with some level of concern.

Even at a base level, if the creator was the reason for the episodes people are enjoying then there's no guarantee the quality level will remain for future Marvel projects given he's gone. Even then two episodes should still not be a sign that Marvel has turned over a new leaf, learned its mistakes and is back for good.

@HashTagSwagg - and that's the point. Something so random snd unrelated is reason for him to tear down a show or movie

@Vigor - dude the culture of this site is built on negativity. people's sole mission is to eliminate any joy being held at all. saying something positive just makes you a target for their holier than thou edgy attitudes. everything must fail or suck.

@McMurdo -
"he was fired for only fans content"
Unless I'm mistaken, that's not been confirmed by anyone involved. That was the viewpoint a lot of people jumped to, but he had only fans prior to joining Disney. I believe some people looking into it claimed he had deactivated it also.

It's also extremely unusual if he was fired for having an Onlyfans for him to then delete everything. There has to be more to it than just doing typical Onlyfans activity.

Either way, if he was the reason that X-Men is 'hot fire' as you describe it, then surely him being fired decreases the changes for 'hot fire' with future shows or projects because he won't be able to contribute creatively.

@Vigor -
"Something so random snd unrelated is reason for him to tear down a show or movie"

'so random and unrelated' as to the creator of the project no longer being around due to being fired...

You are actively ignoring logic to try and dismiss me. Perhaps just block me if you feel that way.

@Matchesz - Wait until after Deadpool And Wolverine, I hope that is great because I love the Deadpool movies.

But we have Agatha, Ironheart, Falcon Of America and Thunderbolts, so we could be back to square one.

A really fun show! In the tradition of the best of the X-Men, the show does a great job of commenting on current societal issues without hitting it you over the head with them.

@Izaizaiza - Some of that is lazy though. Calling the FoH invasion of the trail an “insurrection” was both lazy and inaccurate use of the term.

I also would love to see a deeper dive into what is going on here. While the FoH are a hateful bigot group, wouldn’t their concern with Magneto, who is a criminal who has killed innocents before, somewhat warranted? Going after innocent mutants is not. Going after those judges for giving him a trial is not. But don’t people have a right to be upset with this man who was literally a terrorist?
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 3/26/2024, 11:41 AM
@mountainman - I agree with all your points about magneto, and the right of people to be upset over his terrorist activity. The use of insurrection could arguably be appropriate, because of the presence of the judges and the trial. I believe an insurrection simply involves a revolt against the government in some form, and doesn't necessarily have to constitute a full on rebellion or attempt to overthrow that government. 🤔🤓

The X-Men could be more relevant now, than they've ever been. Hopefully Deadpool and Wolverine, teases the live-action reboot. And we're not stuck waiting for a random writer to take 5 more years, to come up with a script.
