X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES Cosplay Perfectly Brings Rogue's Iconic Costume Into Live-Action

When the X-Men finally make their MCU debut, we'd like to think it will be in comic-accurate costumes. Now, one talented cosplayer has brought X-Men: The Animated Series' Rogue to life with a perfect costume!

X-Men '97 is expected to premiere on Disney+ next year, giving fans of X-Men: The Animated Series a sequel they never expected would become a reality.

While there are conflicting reports about how long the show will stick around (some say it could be as many as four seasons), we're guessing this is all part of Marvel Studios' plan to refamiliarise fans with these characters. Fox did a lot of damage to the franchise, with Dark Phoenix ending things on an undeniably sour note.

When the X-Men do return to live-action, we'd like to think it will be in something resembling their comic book costumes.

The black leather and street clothes paying homage to what they wear on the page have been done to death, so embracing the source material feels like the best possible idea.

Now, popular cosplayer Anastasia Galuzina, a.k.a. Uli-chan, has shared her take (via Toonado.com) on Rogue inspired by X-Men: The Animated Series. As we're sure you'll agree, the costume looks phenomenal in live-action and could definitely work in a future movie with a few minor tweaks at most.

X-Men: The Animated Series premiered in 1992 and ran for a total of 76 episodes. The show was a hit with comic book fans and delivered a near-perfect take on the mutant team that still resonates today.

"Marvel Studios presents 'X-Men '97,'" the latest synopsis reads, "in which the X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before and are forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future."

As noted, X-Men '97 is currently eyeing an early 2024 debut. Check out this jaw-dropping cosplay below and see more of Galuzina's cosplay by heading over to her Instagram account.

I think the whole MCU needs a shakeup and to be rejigged with a new tone and vibe inspired by the approach that Legion took. A kind of hyper-reality, nonspecificly dated retrofuturism vibe that embraces the 60s vibe. Then costumes like this work. Legion had a lot of problems in its second and third season but the tone of the show and its visual signature would be perfect for the xmen, ff, or hell, a whole universe. Because the MCU as it is has lost steam.

@connorblaze - so, in a word...a reboot. set the avengers back in the late 50s/ early 60s? [frick]ing right on, man.

What makes this an animated series cosplay? It looks exactly like the 90's comic costume too.

@MosquitoFarmer - Maybe? But why choose one instead of just saying it's a Rogue cosplay? If it was strictly the animated series then I would expect to see something that makes clearly identifies it as being from the animated series and not the comics.

Overall a good look except way too slick and shiny.
StSteven
StSteven - 6/1/2023, 11:35 PM
Yep, that's pretty much it. I mean, you can tone down the shininess and colors a bit but otherwise, that's pretty much what I want to see from Rogue in the MCU.

It will be interesting to see what era of the X-Men Marvel decides to use as their starting point for their reboot and the associated aesthetics. Like do they go hardcore 60's X-Men with the OG 5? Do they do that but with updates? Do they do the Claremont/Lee era with the 90's stuff? Do they do recent versions? Either way I'm sure that their main goal will be to reintroduce the X-Men in the MCU in a way that hasn't been seen before, so it will be VERY interesting to see how they try to do that...

Although I doubt the live-action look will be so shiny, I think it's a good look to aim for.

Also, with how streamlined with CGI the suits on screen are, I apprecuate seeing wrinkles. Makes it feel like actually wearable clothes.
