A couple weeks ago, it was reported that Joel Edgerton - most recently seen in Warrior and The Thing - was in talks to play lead character Temistocles in the upcoming 300 sequel/prequel/whatever-it-is-quel, Battle Of Artemisium. But now, Variety's Jeff Sneider has revealed that the actor has passed on the developing film, to be directed by Smart People director Noam Murro and produced by Mark Canton (who produced the first film).

UPDATE: JOEL EDGERTON has passed on the 300 sequel.

There hasn't been any other casting mews concerning the film, except for Gerard Butler and Lena Heady reportedly being pursued to reprise their roles as King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo, respectively. But who do you think should take the lead role in 300: Battle Of Artemisium? Sound off your thoughts below in the usual place.

When actors pass on a project it doesn't look good.

Movies made purely for the cash are,as a rule of thumb, wank anyway.I'll shed no tears if this doesn't get made. And I'd rather Frank Miller didn't recieve anymore of my money. He's had enough.Time to share some wealth with some lesser known up-and-comers who don't preach hateful nonsense!
