I saw the movie a few days ago in a WB special screening. It's pretty cool, like the first one, but with a more fluid narrative. It's like hyper-violent R-Rated fun. Sullivan Stapleton is a surprisingly solid protagonist and Rodrigo Santoro has the chance to add some more tangible personality to Xerxes, but Eva Green is the big star. Dude, Artemisia is like the definition of "crazy, wicked b**ch", it's the kind of villain we love to hate.

I'm not a HUGE fan of the first 300 movie, but I think it's a fun experience. I think it's fair to say this one is pretty much as good as the first one, but having a slightly better script. And it has one of the most epic sex scenes ever! It's practically a fight, but with people making out. It's delightfully weird -- like the movie itself.

Anyway, I would give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Regarding the battles, it's the same style. The whole visual style is the same, by the way, just with a few differences in the color pallete and the digital blood patterns. We still have a lot of slow motion and pretty much the same dynamics for the action. We can notice the differences because this time we have a lot of battles in the water and between ships and all, but the STYLE is the same. So I can't tell if it's better or not, it's just different, but keeping the aesthetic approach. It's very cool, like in the previous film.
You have to keep it in mind, though: it's 300. It is supposed to be a hyper-stylized, hyper-violent, pop culture fetish festival. So some things will look cheesy or far-fetched, but that's the point.
