Daniel Craig to Show a Softer Side to James Bond

Daniel Craig to Show a Softer Side to James Bond

The actor sat down with Esquire UK magazine, and expressed his fear that he might even be too old by the time the sequel could be made, but luckily the financially problems of MGM studios are behind them.

About Bond's softer side
'I wanted to instil it with some emotion. If you look at the later Bond films there’s this untouchable thing about him that I wanted to steer away from. [Because] if you’ve set someone up as Teflon-coated it’s very difficult to then show the sensitive side. Give him a kitten? Well, the f**king baddie’s supposed to hold the cat, you know? It’s a tricky thing to deal with,' he said.

Infuse the new Bond movie with 'wryness'.
'The humour has to come from truth, at how ridiculous the situations are. Otherwise it’s just gags for the sake of gags. I’m not interested in that,' he told British magazine Esquire. 'I want to get the wryness back into it. It’s a balance, because you’ve got to believe that he’s going to be alive at the end of the movie. That’s a James Bond movie.'

Craig worried about the state of the
Bond franchise

“If we couldn’t get the film made it would be ridiculous because we’d made all this money and it was a good bet. They were just in a very complicated financial situation but there was nothing [the film-makers] could do. Either it was going to sort itself out or I was going to get too old and that would be the end of it. I was desperate to have another crack at it. I think I would have felt disappointed eventually.”

Like I always say Casino Royale is one of my favorite movies of all time, not Bond movies, I mean all together in the scheme of things. But, Quantum of Solace was one of the worst Bond movies I've ever seen, maybe the worst. But, that film was made during the writers strike and I can safely assume that the script would've received a rewrite if it could've. They just shouldn't have rushed the product out when the script was clearly not ready.

Also I'm very happy to see Sam Mendes taking over the reigns for Marc Forster (Bond director that didn't destroy GL). Sam Mendes is class all the way. His movies American Beauty and Road to Perdition are just a few examples of the splendidly complex films that he has worked on. This is a must see!

By the way the pictures are of Olga Kurylenko the Bond girl from Quantum of Solace.

Craig's third outing as James Bond will be released on October 26, 2012.

Good, Bond is meant to be a secret agent, not some action killing machine we have been seeing.

I'm sorry, but no Bond movie is more ridiculous and awful than Moonraker. And Diamonds Are Forever is close behind. Quantum of Solace may be forgettable, but it isn't the worst Bond film ever made. I'm hoping they do a great job with Craig's next (and last) Bond film, then reboot yet again, but with a very young actor playing James Bond long before he joins MI6.

Quantum of Solace was depressing. Mr. Craig's Bond is a killing machine like @CatwomanLover said, that needs to change. Olga was the best part of 'Solace'. @nailbiter111 Teasing single guys eh? Damn you!

Daniel Craig is already starting to look a bit too old for James Bond. Why they always went with an older actor always baffled me! I mean c'mon, you really never thought about the actor aging and that it might be a problem in future installments?!?

Daniel Craig's James Bond is what I call the fun James Bond. He kills a bunch of people which I think is how he should be. I loved Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace both and I can't wait to see this new one.

You really think Quantum of Solace was THAT bad?

Sorry, we're gonna be in complete disagreement here. For me, the worst bond goes to the Man With The Golden Gun, followed up by Diamonds Are Forever.

Daniel Craig is a killing machine? And this is wrong why?
I'm trying to think of the Bond movie with the highest bodycount (from 007 himself).....

Eh, that'd take too long. But just the opening sequences of every Brosnan movie (except the World is Not Enough) has more killing than Quantum of Solace.

I think people are forgetting he has a license to kill.

I've kind of noticed that on Daniel Craig's run of the Bond films. I'm glad they're going to make him more human and not just some cold-blooded government assassin.

@JackDexx That goes without saying... but I think nailbiter picked some great pictures. I did have some trouble focusing on the actual article.

Good article Nailbiter.

But, the last director of Bond was Marc Forster on Quantum. Martin Campbell was the director of Casino Royale. ;)

I wouldn't go so far as to say that Quantum was bad, far from it in fact. It did have it's faults, but it was pretty good I thought. There are a few terrible Bond movies out there that are much much worse IMO.

Great pics of Olga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah whats with the hate on Quantum of Solace? It has a car cash, foot chase, boat chase, and plane chase. It should be noted however that I have only seen a handful of Bond pictures.

what about the gadgets?? DAMN! i know its basicly a reboot but COME ON. 007 films were well known for the gadgets and now the closest thing hes got to a gadget was a smart phone. Now i dont wanna go see another new james bond film just so i could watch him tweet or play "angry birds" for that matter. damn.

Bond needs Spectre back in his life with al Qaeda connections to give it real world tension and believabilty.Oh, and 'Q' too.
@gffrycole- definitely gadgets!

@Evil Eye
Roger Moore had his ups and downs, but you're right, he was just too soft. He is, however, to date, THE oldest actor to play James Bond officially. He's got some years on Connery. All things considered, he did pretty well for his age.

@Tainted87
You're absolutely right about the age difference between Connery and Moore. Moore is 3 years OLDER than Connery. Connery finished his last official Bond movie at the age of 41. Moore didn't start until he was 46...and continued making them until he was 58.
