D.J. Caruso In Talks To Direct G.I. JOE 3; Threequel Set To Revolve Around The Rock

Well, not The Rock as such, but the character played by Dwayne Johnson in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Roadblock! Anyway, it now appears as if D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) is being enlisted to helm the threequel. Hit the jump for details on the sequel and where the deal stands...

It's been quite some since we've heard anything about the follow-up to Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but it now appears as if Paramount Pictures are finally taking aim at a director. D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) has entered talks to helm the threequel which will put the spotlight on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Roadblock character. Green Lantern director Martin Campbell was named as being in the running last year, but those talks apparently amounted to nothing. Caruso also directed I Am Number Four and is currently shooting the Wentworth Miller penned The Disappointments Room starring Kate Beckinsale. Do you guys think he would be a good fit for the franchise?

Kind of obvious that he'd be the main star of the third film, he has to avenge the death of Duke in the second film and finally put an end to Cobra Commander.

Make a cinematic universe and force a crossover with Transformers. It'll be horrible but people will see it.

@Highflyer

Both films sucked, just for different reasons. Though i found the second more generic and boring. The first atleast tried stuff...

I wonder what happened with his "Invertigo" movie.

I just hope that there are more Joes, better Joes, than what was in Retaliation. They have to give them more specialized outfits that at least make you think of their outfits from the cartoon.

Ill be honest I had way more fun watching Rise of Cobra. Both ROC and Retaliation are dumb as [frick] movies but at least ROC recognized its cartoony roots instead of trying to be a serious war movie that isn't actually serious.

This will suck, no doubt.
But I'll watch it for the villains.

The Rock is the same in every action movie. They need more colorful Joes.

Rise of Cobra is fun @Nick56 and while I liked some aspects of Retaliation-it mostly sucks ass. Hope they bring back Heavy Duty, Scarlett, Destro, and Ana or (Baroness if you prefer)

I didn't hate the first two GIJOE movies (as I have TRANSFORMERS), but let's face it: they came out 25 years too late to be enjoyed by its target audience of 10 year old boys who watched the cartoon.

That said, I have been DVRing reruns of the 80s cartoon from Discovery Family every morning to introduce this franchise to my own kids.

The second one was as close to the cartoon as you could get. Cobra Commander's world domination "plot" in Retaliation is up there with the M.A.S.S. Device, the Weather Dominator, and the Pyramid of Darkness. Mind you, that's not entirely a good thing but it isn't bad either. The second one could have been greatly improved if Channing Tatum had been in it more (yeah, I said it) and they had been able to get Sgt. Slaughter in the movie like they originally wanted instead of Bruce Willis. Nothing on Bruce Willis but c'mon, Sgt Slaughter, man.

Let us see if the movie and franchise can be carried by him alone... In other words no Snake Eyes. Then see if anyone goes to see it. Bruce needs to be left home.

Well Im okay with The ROck being in the third but now Im doubting Adrianne Palicki would be a part of it...and as much as I want her to be, I fear she's already tied up with Agents of Shield and possibly working out a deal to appear in the Marvel films...

As bad as i thought Rise of Cobra was, Retaliation was beyond abysmal. I still want $1.50 back for that rental and an hour and a half of my life. Put a bullet in this horrendous franchise. No more.
