According to the ever-reliable
Deadline, it seems the Jonathan Liebesman-directed follow-up to
Clash of the Titans,
Wrath of the Titans is looking at Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez, for the God of War.
"Edgar Ramirez has been offered the role of Ares, the God of War, in the sequel Wrath of the Titans. I'm told he's on the verge of making a deal to star opposite Sam Worthington.
The character appeared in the original 2010
Clash Of The Titans, although portrayed in a minor role by actor Tamer Hassan.
Late last year, it was reported that
No Country For Old Men actor Javier Barem was being approached for the 'Ares' role, while James Franco was being pursued for the role of Agenor, son of Poseidon. While this doesn't exactly knock Franco starring, filming for the Legendary Pictures sequel commences in 3D next March.
And if Ramirez accepts, he'll star opposite Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, and Gemma Arteron returning from the original. And with improvements promised,
Wrath Of The Titans is slated for theaters March 30th, 2012.
